DVT stands for deep vein thrombosis. It commonly effects the calf or leg veins and you get clots within them. Its fairly a dangerous condition because if gone undetected clots can migrate to the major veins in the thigh and the pelvis . If not treated appropriately they can migrate to the heart and block the circulation to lungs . This condition is called pulmonary thromboembolism. In majority of cases it is a life threatening condition. Uncomplicated DVT generally presents as pain in the calf muscles. Generally the duration of treatment is about 4 to 5 days in the hospital.
