Ortho vs Anaesthesia: The Struggle Is Real. If you know, you know.

Anaesthesia is always trying to slow down surgeons. They’re always looking to do extra procedures, some of which are not particularly necessary.

This is a parity video. No gas pastors were harmed in the making of this video.

I remember when you did my shoulder

We were getting set up in the “beach chair” position and the anesthesiologist asked me if I was comfortable

I said “well, the railing bar on my left is a bit cold” to which she replied “oh, you’re not going to feel that much longer”

Next thing, I was waking up in recovery

Ten years on and my shoulder is still 100%

… and feel free to ask me about the time Dr. Chris patched up my ruptured quad tendon …

I’ve had the inter-skalene (sp?) block as part of shoulder surgery. Given how it felt after it word off, the block is the best part of that procedure. If I could have gotten a block and Percocet chaser before physical therapy, oh man who knows how much less loud I would been.

Cheers!

I think Dr. Glaucomaflecken would disagree with Anesthesias regular use of bro 😂

Anesthesia do like showing how they can switch off nerves anywhere in the body with nothing more than a needle and sonosite.

When I was in the emergency room for kidney failure caused by prostrate blocking my bladder, no anesthesia, doctor said “This is going to hurt” as he shoved a catheter through my prostrate. When a doctor says it’s going to hurt, you will feel pain like like you never felt before!

I've had arthroscopic surgery on both knees and both times the surgeons insisted on general anesthetic. I still don't understand why they couldn't just do a block. All they were doing was poking a couple holes and removing a piece of cartilage that had been torn off of my kneecap. One of the times they had to poke a third hole for a laser to cut the piece into four parts so they could remove it through the scope hole. Nothing that should have required general anesthesia. It annoys me that the surgeon insisted on putting my life in danger (a small danger, but still some danger) twice for such minor procedures.

I woke up during breast surgery. "I can feel that!"
I was out again. During the follow-up, I mentioned that to the surgeon. He said I shouldn't have remembered that.
Do what screws with my brain the least.

The blocks take longer than the procedures. I ran an OR for years.

Doc I wish my docs would do a block for the stenosis but they say that it could be made worse because of the MERSA cysts running up and down my spine. 🍻 From OSF, Ottawa, Illinois.

Now I'm wondering if a block was the right thing for my bicep tenodesis.

On what factors it depends the time after the blocked limb/part re awakens after the procedure?

Blocks, taps, pain control. Bill, bill, bill.

My anesthesiologist's answer to everything was the ml of Versed he always kept in his coat pocket. "Hey are you feeling nervous about your procedure today? Okay not anymore :)".

That's funny. I've had my distal biceps tendon repaired 4 years ago, and now my triceps tendon, and both times, two different anesthesiologists did a nerve block.

I woke up during surgery once so I would rather know what’s going on all the time instead of spontaneously if I can. I definitely to colonoscopies and endoscopies with no drugs. If I ever need a knee replaced I will probably ask for a local :).

Remember they originally did open heart surgery with just a local until they understood the surgery better.
