Inspecting and adjusting a Knott trailer brake

When adjusting a trailer brake it is always good practice to remove the drum, check the parts inside the brake are all working correctly and then adjust the brakes at the wheel.

Once this is done then adjust the brake rod to give the correct adjustment on the coupling.

This is a simple guide showing the adjustment that is done on a knott trailer wheel brake.

all this work needs to be carried out with the main brake rod either slackened off or removed.

It is good to remove the drum and inspect it before adjusting.

Not shown in the video also operate the expander to make sure it and the brake cables are working correctly.

Great Video. Thank you for taking the time to produce and put it up.

One question... where do you find the correct torque settings for an Ifor Williams (I have a TT105G and an HB501)

Many thanks

Thank you for all your videos. I have just renovated my 2008 Ifor 3.5T tipper by watching them all.
A question though, my brake expander bolt had blue loctite applied. On the www new bolts are available and they all have red loctite pre-applied.
If they have loctite on.... how is it possible to adjust as you say? Surely the adjustment should be done via the domed cable adjustment nut?
Many thanks again, great channel.
