Limit and Vanishing points are an essential part of planning for any bend on a road, but what does it mean and how do you read them?

This week we talk about Limit points (sometimes referred to as Vanishing points) and how we use them to negotiate bends on the road.

Excellent video team RCTV. I couldn’t help but chuckle seeing Toby in the distance, you realise every time I’m looking for the LP I’ll have a mental image of that 😂. Fancy standing around in all the bike gear outside a school, surprised the rozzers did turn up. Brilliant stuff, educational and entertaining. Thanks guys.

Firstly only just seen this video and it’s a great way to explain limit/vanishing points.

When I explain it to people I use the old outrun arcade game as a good way to demonstrate the road converging and then tightening or opening.

On the road in my car you treat them a little bit different but on the bike as long as you are in the right position (1, 2, 3) then you can ride smoothly and quickly. My own personal issue is stringing together multiple bends. It’s a practice thing but on my blade if there are several corners sequentially then I will miss read my positioning on one of them slowing otherwise good flowing progress.

Great vid guys!

First time I've understood it clearly if I'm honest so thank you.

I also appreciate the effort you put in, walking on main roads & a diagram etc.

Take care.

Another really informative video guys. A useful reference to help riders get in the right position is when the council kindly paint the word SLOW on the road before a bend; if you aim to ride over the S for a right hand bend and aim to ride over the W for a left hand bend, you should generally be in the right position. Hope this helps. Cheers, Andy

Good stuff chaps, nice and simple, like me. So, if I've understood this, the vanishing point moving becoming nearer or further away determines whether we should be slowing down or accelerating. If it stays the same distance from us, we can maintain speed. We give ourselves the best view by adapting our position on the road.

Thanks for another nice and informative video.
I found me doing this even when I drive my car. May be because my first rides were made by motorcycle for some years before I get my car license.

A good vid for anyone who doesn't understand the principle chaps. Might be worth doing a follow up on the bike to show how to judge how tight the bend is, how to then match your speed and when it's safe to the accelerate out of the bend though you'd need to add something about safety too from other hazards like junctions and oncoming cars when negotiating the bend? Cheers Ade
