Princess Anne has said the Queen did "exactly the right thing" by staying in Balmoral with Princes William and Harry in the days after the death of Princess Diana.

Interviewed in 2017, the Princess Royal said: "I think it's absolutely extraordinary that any right-minded parent should believe that it would have been an alternative to bring those children down here to London in all that hoo-ha."

I totally agree with Princess Anne...I could never understand the public reaction when The Queen decided that those 2 innocent young boys needed sometime to realize that they had lost their mother..The Queen was thinking like a grandmother...not a monarch...As far as I saw the media first started with the fact that the Queen and the children were no where to be seen and then the public got on that bandwagon...I thought it was the best thing she could have done...I salute the Queen

I do agree as well. Grief is something that should never be rushed.

Totally agree. Being a grandmother was most important at that time.

Absolutely grandmother becomes the mother. The same happened in my family. My father was orphaned when his mother died from childbirth. His paternal grandmother lovingly raised him..

I completely agree. No one else considered that those boys didn't want to be on display!

I always thought the Queen did the right thing. It's impossible to please everyone. She did what was right for her grandsons and that was paramount in her mind.

I always thought the public were so selfish in expecting the Queen to drop everything and come to London. It was callous to openly criticise her at the time for staying in Scotland with two small boys with broken hearts.

Absolutely right!! Those kids were much better served being away from the wailing mob that was in London after Diana died. Her Majesty and her family were so right. Balmoral was the best place they could be. Its peace, beauty and serenity combined with the support and love of their whole family would have been much more healing and restful during the early days of their grief. They were children after all!!

Well said.

The Queen's children are truly heartbroken. You can see they loved the Queen dearly. It's a sorrowful time for all of us.

She absolutely did the right thing by shielding and protecting her two grandsons from the media. It's what anyone else would do in the same circumstances.

She absolutely did the right thing. I have always felt that way. Losing a parent at that age or at any age is hard much less for young children.

Anne has such a strong presence. As much as I like Charles, Anne would have been my first pick for a monarch.

I remember it all well, and I think the press whipped up a mob like frenzy, demanding the Queen return to London. Now, in hindsight, I think most people would agree that the situation was well out of hand and our poor Queen was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

As an American, I have always admired the Princess Royal. I wish them well in their mourning of her Mother.

Ignorance and criminal stupidity and avarice of the press turned all that into a mess.

The Princess Royal is so classy. As well as a good parent.
