Princess Diana was young and naive at the time she married Prince Charles. They were indifferent because they felt Diana was too emotional, not realizing it was because she really did love Charles. The royal family viewed the marriage as a sort of business transaction or merger, while Diana, being young and hopeful, wanted him to love her. It's sad because there were many failed opportunities to support her if only they realized Diana reached out to them because she truly wanted to be with Charles and a part of the royal family.

I think all of them did. Princess Diana seemed so powerful to them all, to the public, that none of us ever imagined she’d be gone. I’m glad with the idea (and probability) that Princess Anne wishes she had offered her more support. Princess Diana was such an invaluable member of the family.
