At this point I feel like the vast majority of shein’s designs are stolen.

There used to be a joke in the art community that “you aren’t a real artist until Disney sends you a cease and desist”, these days it should be changed to “you aren’t a real artist until shein rips you off”.

ive seen shein steal a ton of designs from independent kawaii fashion creators which is so unfortunate. that is one of the biggest reasons i will not buy from them (along with the fast fashion consumption it promotes and child labor/sweat shop usage)

Shein does this SO MUCH that as a small fashion designer, I am literally waiting for them to steal one of my designs and claim it as their own because it’s basically inevitable!🙃
So many small artists and businesses are going to be impacted by this and even have it done multiple times (like ACDC RAG has) and since Shein are smart and kind of change the design up so it’s not an EXACT copy of an artist’s- they can get away with the stealing.

The worst part is there’s nothing we can really do because in court, Shein can just claim that it’s not a copy because it doesn’t look like an exact replica!
They have changed enough areas on the design itself for it to fall under a “similar design and art style” meaning we as small artists don’t have a legal leg to stand on and fighting it in court will lead to nowhere because we can’t technically prove it’s a replica of our designs 😩😫😭

To add to shein copying designs from other designers I must say that my friends grandmother ordered from shein and in her package she found a little piece of paper in her box that said “help me. They won’t let me leave” in what looked like a child’s handwriting. it really freaked my friends grandma out. So either they are keeping people working and not letting them go home which could be KIDS or people are playing with others and trying to scare them. So I will never order from shein. I was going to but I heard about the note and now hearing about the copying there is no way I am ordering from them!

I’m so sorry this is happening…having your art stolen is frustrating and honestly devastating. A few months ago I had one of my t-shirt designs flat out copied and stolen on Amazon Merch. It was such a battle to take it down. Ever since then, whenever I hear of situations like this, I get super upset all over again. I relate to the frustration of this happening 💔

I think the most we can do about it is to just straight up not shop from there, and try to support small indie creators if we can :( I'm still so sorry this happened to you though, I can't even imagine how upsetting that must have been!

The collab part is just to cover themselves when people call them out for stealing designs. "We don't steal! We promote!" And blame "we have so many designers to produce designs, their must be someone cutting corners because *we* would never do that"
