How To Save Your Sneakers From Crumbling and Falling Apart #sneakers #sneakerhead

I get a lot of questions about how prevent your shoes from crumbling or falling apart or yellowing. Here are some sneaker tips on what to do with your shoes and how to avoid some of this happening. But the number one way to help your sneakers from falling apart is to wear them!! If they are in a storage unit, get a climate controlled one if at all possible. Heat, humidity, water are not your friend with some shoes. Take care of your investments.

Jordan 1s have a rubber sole and shoes like Jordan 3s have a Polyurethane midsole.

The following shoes have a foam sole Jordan 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 8s, 9s.

A lot of the crumbling happened on polyurethane midsoles which is an open cell material, meaning that it was easier for gases, by-products and environmental contaminants to get into the material and degrade it in the form of crumbling. Nike phased out that material which more notably was seen on sneakers like 3s, 4s, and 7s to name a few. Now they use fylon, it is a closed cell material, so this problem we used to have with crumbling isn't really a problem anymore. Just wear and enjoy your sneakers, and keep them clean. Plain and simple.

Totally agree I've got way to many d.s pairs as show pieces....what I found is anything with a air bubble won't last..dehumidifier n proper storage is key to longevity..stopping doubling up n I'm selling bout 50 pairs that aren't needed

Jordan 7 retro’s from 2002 and up don’t crumble….the glue will dry out however but a simple reglue will make the shoe wearable again….OG 7’s had polyurethane midsole encased in a rubber outsole so they crumbled.

Amazing video!! I've got a few pairs stored in a hot room that I need to get out. I know they are in danger being there, but i definitely wear my kicks. I put them on around the house a bit, but i usually rotate about 6-7 pairs to go out in. Then i clean them and put them away until the next rotation. Works pretty well. My 2015 aqua 8s look brand new and are holding up fine... on the other hand, my 2013 bugs bunnies 'were' fine, but blew out on me when I wore them yesterday. Now they will be a showcase piece. I definitely enjoyed them though and I can't complain one bit.

Even Sperry Topsiders today crumble. Before year 2000 they never did.

My coiled headphone cable is crumbling just the same - it was unsued in a drawer for three years. I bought two other pairs of the same headphones at the same time that have been used daily and those coiled cables are fine. I've also had several pairs of stored shoes crumble on me when taken out and used. I firmly believe that plasticised PVC needs to be flexed occasionally to keep it stable and storing is the worst thing you can do.

Jordan 1s are the best all around. I love the 3 and have a couple pairs of the new retro retro colors and a pair of 6s because those are my favorite looking basketball shoe ever.

Shell toes will last forever. The lining will crack first but they last a long time.

Just looked for this vid today after wearing some Brand New Air Max Structure Neon edition and noticing all the Sole Unit breaking up when I got home 😢 Had them boxed up since 2005, didn't expect this. Sad they're so nice. My Jordan 5s from 1990 suffered to though I recall- 12 years later sole unit turned into a Flip Flop when I was out, really embarrassing 😅 Will stop buying and start wearing now.
