So the flight scenes in Top Gun, may not have been the most accurate, but the shirtless volleyball and group serenade scenes were 100% true to life, right?

My dad, a Navy pilot, absolutely loved Top Gun. He didn't care if it was perfectly accurate, he loved it. Didn't like too many war or military movies.

Yeah. I remember watching a special on Top Gun where they talked to the main advisor. He had a fight on his hands. "At this point, I'm just hoping they don't try to make it a musical" Poor Peter.

This is the second F-18 pilot I've heard tell the story of the completely fictional call signs in movies. Apparently if God himself became the most skilled and lethal aviator in history, his call sign would be would be something like "Snerf" because he sneezed and barfed at the same time once or something like that.

Pretty hilarious to get those inside details when the opportunity arises.

My uncle went through the Top Gun school during Vietnam. He became a Top Gun instructor sometime after that, in the early 70's. Commander Robert Griesser, call sign "Spider"
