Top Gun: Maverick is the latest blockbuster to capture the imagination of the Armed Forces community, featuring real cockpit footage in daring scenes of speed, manoeuvres and combat.

But how realistic is the movie starring Tom Cruise?

We tracked down a member of the US Air Force's 480th Fighter Squadron, from 52nd Fighter Wing, to get some answers.

"Stormin'" Norman Schwarzkopf is the basis for the call sign

Good review of movie. It was like watching a James Bond flick.

OFFS it's just a movie not real life. Sick of "real pilots" saying you can or can't this or that.

Why does Maverick and Rooster not have a backseater but the other pilots do?

Hm. Is Captain Schwarzkopf related to General Schwarzkopf?

Why are you asking and Air Force pilot things of a Navy Pilot?…like the difference is immense.

The upside down descent is to create a positive G force which you can counteract (you can't with the negative one which makes it far more dangerous). What fighter pilot doesn't know that?!

I only care about the new top gun because the ship my brother was stationed on was used to help with filming of certain scenes

If they would let him, he would have flown it for real and he would have done it.

Good grief. It’s a movie!!! It’s not a documentary. I just watched a video that showed Jason Statham whoop a dozen guys that had axes and swords. Jason is quite the marshal artist but it’s a freaking movie. Real world? Jason lasts about 30 seconds.
