Garnet amps was another little Winnipeg success story from the 60/70's. My buddies dad did all the electrical designs for Garnet amps.

His sound & tone hooked me as a young kid and I still love it at 61 years young.

his lead tone on American Woman was awesome.. I always figured he used a fuzz box going into whatever amp (JTM45 maybe?) and that kinda works.. but hearing his explanation makes sense.. I love the way he plays the chords on Takin' Care of Business.. it's a little different from the way most cover band guitarists play it.. the C, Bb and F have a quick 1, 4 before the 1, 5 part of the licks.. those little things often separate very cool from average.

I did that back in the late 60s, but just for a few minutes. It was something I read about Jeff Beck that made me do it. 😊

Right before an amp self-combusts, it sounds otherworldly.

An example of this tone would have been absolutely delightful. Shorts f suck. They are never complete.

Randy, I remember seeing you on some show and Bryan Adams band was on it. I believe you played through a Johnson amp and your tone was horrid. Just wan to let you know. Brian‘s guitarist sounded fabulous not here to insult you just an honest opinion from a fellow old guitarist.
PS I saw any bro played dozens of times back in the day sometimes in near empty clubs he was a genius. I became friends with Danny Gatten and he told me that he and Lenny recorded hundreds of hours of music together and yet no one knows about this no, I’m not making this up .
