Godox V1 vs V860II Comparison // Zoom R2 Li-on X

In this video I discuss the comparisons between the new Godox V1 vs. V860II. Under Flashpoint this would be R2 Zoom Li-on X vs R2 Zoom Li-on TTL. Many were expecting this to be an upgrade in terms of light output, however they are extremely close. The V1 has a slightly faster recycle speed. The V1 has a significant advantage in light quality, which is important for direct modifiers such as grids, snoots, and even shoot through umbrellas. In bounce modifiers it is unlikely that you will noitce any difference.

The V1 also has an advantage with the available AK-R1 magnetic modifier kit. This is a great alternative to the Magmod modifiers.
My favorite improvement on the Godox V1 is the speed of control when using as a master for other off camera godox lighting. Everything about the V1 is a touch faster in terms of control, most notably navigating between off camera flashes and changing their mode and power.

I will be comparing the Godox V1 to the Profoto A1 very soon, so keep an eye out for that video.

Update : the production model is now reporting 480 full power flashes per battery. Not sure what lead to the change, and I never conducted my own test. Will include this new information in V1 vs A1 video.

These videos are so helpful. Wish there was a firmware for the 860II for that group menu!!! Thanks Robert.

Thanks for review. Glad I bought 860 ii on sale recently. Don't really need the benefits of the V1 compared to 860 ii. Pls compare ad200 pro to ad200 if/when you have a chance.

As you showed in the video, the V1 can gives smooth round background light without additional modifier (you have to add grid to the v860 to get smooth light pattern)

Godox S-R1 round head accessories adapter is only $5 to use the Godox magnetic modifiers on your V86o and other speed lights!

I wonder how the power and light quality compare to a v860ii with the $6.99 round head adapter?

So glad I watched this! I'll be replacing my Yongnuos with the 860s instead of the more expensive and bigger V1s. Thank you!

There’s a super cheap adapter to let you use the round Godox modifiers on the v860ii

It will be very thankful if you compare white balance of v1 with 860 & AD200.

Hey Rob, great job on all your vids!!!
Out of curiosity, would you be able to make a video comparison of the both Godox V1 and the V860II but with the AK-R1 accessories with the Sr-1 attachment on the 860ii, if the power output is the same I'm just curious of the light pattern of the V860II with the AK-R1 accessories.
Thanks a lot!!

Questions: (1) Have you noticed a different color temperature from the v860mk 2 vs the V1? I'm comparing the Flashpoint versions in my home and the V1 looks a bit warm or even green compared to the v860mk 2. (2) Durability of the plastic hotshoe insert? My Nikon flashes - though much less flexible in practice - nonetheless have metal hotshoe inserts and go smoothly into Nikons. Both the V860mk2 and the V1 have plastic inserts and I struggle to insert them into my Sony A73 or A7R3.
Thanks so much for your excellent Flashpoint/Godox reviews!

Looking for input. It appears in manual grouping, when using multiple AD100 and multiple V1, the flashes do not update settings

Took the V1 to an event and was able to control my older Godox flashes and the power out of the v1 is super. Thinking of replacing my Alien Bees and honey badger with the v1

This is a far better review than the one where you pitched the V1 against the similar Profoto A1 flash 😊👍
Hope to see you do a re-review just on your own 😊
No offence but the duel review didn’t work for me it became a little confusing 😊👍

Great consistent content as usual Robert Hall! This product seems like a lot of hype imho. The evolution of the small OCF flash is the AD200 before its existence the "strobist" community hacked the hot shoe flashes to work as OCF. The V1 has a hot shoe which suggest on camera use [puts on internet flame shield before people try to educate me on ways to mount a hot shoe flash on stands etc] That being said, on camera flash will typically be used to bounce light off walls and ceilings so the magnetic accessories are not a huge deal [flame suit still on] yes, the flag and gels would be nice but this just just seems like a step backwards, a solution looking for a problem. And like @elliot stern mentioned the v860 adapter is an inexpensive solution for those wanting the magnetic accessory kit.

Correction for your statement starting at 6:24: The Godox S-R1 adapter ring ($7) for the v860ii/tt685/etc. allows you to use the exact same AK-R1 round head magnetic accessories as you can use with the V1 and the AD200 round head.
I'm eyeing this in order to use a tt685 to light up a backdrop, but I'm still on the fence regarding this vs. the cheaper non-magnetic rogue flash grid/gel product and vs. the more expensive Magmod setup. As you mention in another video, the snoot in this Godox accessories kit seems useless and Godox is offering a limited range of colors.

Robert, the V1c spec is now up on the Godox site it says you get ~480 full power pops not 650
