Well done on setting up for hotel room stitching! Ive found either there's a really good desk and lamp to spread out and work with or else the lighting is rubbish... On holiday a couple of years ago I unscrewed the lampshade from a table lamp as the bare bulb was a little bit brighter to stitch by!!
