I think I might be the only person in the world who doesn't like the sound of compressed drums. I don't know why! Thanks for this video. Now, I know more what I like on my drums. :)

I’ll be honest. I get into mixing and it feels like I just walked into Harbor Freight Tools when I’m staring at all the Logic controls. I lose my mind and forget why I’m there. I spent all night wondering why my drums are lost in the mix and I realized I hadn’t panned a single instrument on the kit. And I’m a freaking LOL I’m hoping your checklist keeps on the rails.

First of all: Best regards from Germany! :-) Great tutorials! Each time I learn something new. Thank you very much.
I use the Logic drummer very often but I am very surprised by the opportunities of the producer kit. I just followed your fist advices producing background music for a YouTube commercial and the difference was huge!!!! Great value content!

I like to add a bit of distortion onto the drum bus too, just to give them a bit more punch. The logic drummer function is ace, and I bet the casual listener would have no idea whether they were 'real' drums or not 😂

Thank you for your great tips. I'm currently mixing my first multitrack from a live band for a new Video.

Very helpful and just stock plugins will do this, wow that's great. Of course I have bought a lot more but not necessarily understood all of them properly. This helps with them also.

Do you not use the automation in the midi editor to change expression and velocity?

Great video, Colin. do you recommend starting with this drum mixing technique first, then adjusting other tracks, or start with a general mix and adjust the drums?

For most of your videos you use files that are bounced, If i apply your methods is it alright if i use Midis or should i bounce before mixing. Big fan btw ive learned more in 2 days about the mixing process than i did in the previous 5 years of producing

Hi Colin, thanks for these lessons. I worked this through with Logic Pro 11. There seems to be already "crunch" bus to which individual tracks are sent, which essentially seems to have the same distortion plugin than GRIT used in this video. There are also a couple of additional busses for reverbs and one for "pump" (compression). Would you prefer bypassing these stock buses and create your own buses instead?

These are great tips but to my ears the drums ring a little. Is that a good thing? Typically I lean towards a shorter tail. Any thoughts on gating?

Are you putting eq on cymbals? It seemed a bit' harsh' on cymbals

Do the "producer kit" settings hold if you convert to a midi track? I want to keep the layout of the split drum mic channels and options for switching the individual drums, but don't often find the drummer patterns to my liking, and thusly prefer to write them in.
