DRUM BUS ANGEL DUST ✨

This is an alternative way to compress your drum bus 🥁

If you don't do this already, group all of your drums into one bus

On that bus, add a reverb like the valhalla

Mix 👉🏻 3%

Decay 👉🏻 super low

Then choose whatever mode you like 🤷🏻‍♂️

Next, add a compressor after the reverb

Slow attack, fast release, ratio 4:1

This will add some flavour to your drums whilst making them sound more together

The reverb will also bring out some nice little details that will improve the sound as a whole 👌🏻

Try it out for yourself and let me know 😄

I always use reverb on my drums (tekno genre) because it adds a smooth tail to your drums, makes it sound a bit more spaceous

I applied the moment I watched the short. Damn, my drums were super clean

I do this when I'm making acoustic drum parts using midi, the reverb with short decay and being very subtly mixed gives it a more realistic feeling, making it sound like a whole instrument in front of you. If you use the Valhalla one you can also play with the attack and the early and late percentages to get the perfect sound.

Dont forget to cut lo end on parallel comp track in audio effect rack, of course if you dont want to have muddy lo end.

whenever i’m making electronic music, i always throw reverb into a compressor on the bus. specifically for electronica, i like to really crank up the settings on the reverb and the compressor to get a lot of aggression. crazy how effective it is

I've just tried it on a rock drum. I've already put a long reverb on it an then adding this technique. This second short reverb help a lot to bring the dry drum signal to not to be lost in the long reverb, it's amasing how efficient it is

I tend to compress my reverb as well, I also decrease its stereo width to focus it a bit

I do this but with all the drum channels sending to an aux reverb with the return to the drum buss. Is this the same thing?

When would you use this? Drums that need a bit of air/tail?

...been doing this awhile. I thought it was my little secret. 😂

I have a question: Do you still utilize a separate reverb on the snare and toms or no when doing this to the drum bus?

Wait but are you routing the kick drum in the drum bus? I always group my drums without the kick, and I leave the kick in a separete mixer track so I can sidechain the kick to the bass. So should I group the kick together with all the other elements of the drums in 1 bus mixer track?

Are we assuming kick is part of the drum buss as well?

I'm not sure everybody understand what he is suggesting. That is a completely different way of using reverb on the drum bus. it is not the usual thing. At least I had never heard of this.At least I had never heard of this.
