TikTok shop is like a dollar store on steroids with the added bonus of not being able to know if it has passed all the required safety requirements

The people who scare me are those who WILLINGLY buy food, medicine, or body care products… the amount of sellers on Amazon who have had arsenic and lead in the products… why would you trust unverified products???

I’m a makeup artist with training in skincare and worked in cosmetic retail, the amount of like 11-14 year old kids that would try convince their parents to buy them a $90 bottle of retinol that could literally cause chemical burns was COUNTLESS. Kids wouldn’t listen to me when I tried to explain it to them so I’d appeal to their parents and like 99.9% of the time they’d be grateful that someone with real training was willing to inform them about these products and how they should be used by people in their 30’s and up. I didn’t have a skincare routine until I was about 14/15 but with my mums advice because I had acne and she literally just bought me a nutrogena cleanser from the grocery store haha. But It scares me how many kids are using upwards of 20 products per day and they don’t even know what’s in them or what they do, there needs to be mediation or something in place so kids aren’t buying these products designed for adults.

I feel like If I buy something from the tik tok shop, I just might get a bomb on my door step instead of the product.

I genuinely believe that you just shouldn’t be online until you’re like 16, cause it’s just far too horrible online these days and it’s too harsh a place for kids. I’m glad I was able to just be a kid (as much as I could with my circumstances) and not worry about being online and seeing all the horrific things that are online now. You can go anywhere online without seeing some kind of things that kids shouldn’t see.

I've noticed that after looking at a tiktok product and adding it to my cart. They reallyyy pressure you into buying it. I get many videos over that same product for the next couple days. they really put the product into your head to make you buy it.

not to mention some of the stuff ive seen on there. i've never even bought anything on it before. i'll be scrolling on my fyp, get an ad for the tiktok shop, and the ad will be for adult toys, penjamins, alc, weed, and edibles. i have no idea HOW its even allowed

Back in March i deleted tiktok solely because of tiktok shop. I did the math, and it was a seven to one ratio of videos trying to sell stuff to regular videos. I havent been on there since then and ive been using youtube shorts, and I like it a lot better because most of the content is actual content and not trying to sell you stuff.

I remember a few years back there was a similar problem with cosmetic products brought on eBay and Wish, people got really bad chemical burns from knock off products that were advertised as makeup influencers and other big brand products. The lip burns were specially terrifying. If you are going to risk buying cosmetics online ALWAYS test the product on your hand first or even better save up for another week and buy the real thing.

will never understand the little kids and preteens having multi-step skincare routines. there are SO many layers to that and none of it is good. but just .. what kid WANTS to do that ?? 😭 not all kids are messy, but it's typical to not even want to take baths everyday at that age ... forget have full on skincare routines. when i first started getting acne (around 11-12) i hated the idea of having any kind of routine for my skin. i thought it was unfair that i had to do it and other kids didn't. idk, maybe i was just lazy, but it felt like way too much work. i finally came around, but a couple of years later i still feel that way. as a child your skin is the LAST thing you should be worrying about lmao. your hormones are fine, and you can literally rub dirt and bacon grease all over your face 5 hours a day and still have a perfect complexion. it's sad this whole "sephora drunk elephant" skin care craze is making them worry about their appearances + conformity ALREADY. not to mention the inexperience. over exfoliating, not knowing how to layer properly, and just having literal BABY SKIN can give them chemical burns, skin peeling, rashes, and the acne they were trying to chase away in the first place.

edit: i know some ppl get acne as kids, that's not what i'm referring to. i'm talking about children with zero skin problems and zero reason to be doing all that using products designed for skin much older than theirs. and even then, when you're a kid/teen with acne you'd be much better off going to a dermatologist for a curated regiment/advice than just going to walmart and buying whatever's there. ik some kids do it to feel mature, but at the end of the day it's still harmful. if your child wants to play adult/have some sort of routine, there are plenty of other substitutions. these products are actively harmful for their skin point blank

Bruh, .. i remember watching some of your first videos when they had ~decent views but now it’s just so crazy how far you’ve come.. the hard work has paid off. Proud of you!

its unrelated to the tiktok shop but the tiktok algorithm really is terrifying. id been having issues that i think might be related to POTS and within like a day of me using the app after talking a lil about it with family / online friends, i was getting so many videos about POTS. while I'm not exactly complaining cuz that's what really set me on "hm maybe i should start researching this", its still terrifying tbh

Scams go BOTH WAYS! I have an ebay shop and I've dealt with scam buyers that straight up lie saying they didn't receive an item or that I sent them something entirely different. Ebay is ALWAYS geared towards the buyer, so you're always forced into a refund no matter how much evidence you have that it's a lie.

i ordered freeze dried skittles back when they were a big thing from tiktok shop. The shops will message you after you buy the product asking you to review it (normal), but even after you decline they continue to message you months after.

It is insanely sketchy, only thing I've bought is a 12 pack of Ghost energy for $6. Usually $3 a can, so I couldn't resist. I got them delivered no problem, packaging was all good, drank them all since I bought them a few months ago and I'm still alive

As a small creator it was exciting for me to be able to work with “brands” for commission so early in my career. I didn’t realize I needed to tag my videos as ad thank you for making this
