Why is Indonesia moving its capital? #shorts

Indonesia, one of the most populated countries in the world, recently launched a project in which they are moving their capital city from Jakarta, to a location on the island of Borneo called Nusantara. For 60 years, Jakarta has remained the capital of Indonesia, so why are they suddenly deciding to change it?

Brazil did that exact thing, moving it’s capital, back in the ‘60’s

There were good arguments that got pretty serious at times for moving the US Capital to St. Louis in the 1840s-1870s.

During the Monsoon season, Jakarta would submerge underwater. I support the move, but I hope they don't expand and damage the forest in Borneo.

The best thing about Borneo Island is we dont have earthquakes and tornado.

Jakarta has 33 million people! As an American, this blows my mind. Our biggest city, New York City, has a population of less than 9 million. 33 million isn't far behind the population of California! 🤯

Actually 33 m people is the Jakarta metropolitan area (Jabodetabek) population that much wider with surrounding cities and regencies in surrounding provinces. The proper Jakarta Capital Region population that you highlighted is around 11 million people

I'm not Indonesian but I support this move for Indos. I can certainly see the benefits of it. I actually hope the same thing can be implemented in my country.

It's moving its capital to its centroid in terms of area and resources though it's sparsely populated at the beginning.

If you think about it, they're saving the lives of countless people, because in Jakarta, there would be a high chance for sinkholes.

Wait how does Jakarta have 33 million people? I heard Jakarta has just over 10 million people.
The top 5 most populous cities as of 2023 are:
5. Sau Paulo, Brazil - 22.5 million
4. Dhaka, Bangladesh - 23.1 million
3. Shanghai, China - 28.9 million
2. New Delhi, India - 32.2 million
1. Tokyo, Japan - 37.4 million

Unless I am mistaken, I don't see how Jakarta has over 33 million people.

I live in the Indonesian part of New Guinea Island and yes, access to the center of Jakarta is really very far away and it takes up flight costs. If you move it to the part of Borneo Island, flight access doesn't take too long and is relatively cheaper so residents can access the office more quickly. National quickly.
Speaking of population, we in the Indonesian New Guinea region, to be precise, the island of Papua, only has around 4 million population with a very large land or island, as well as the islands of Borneo or Kalimantan. 😂

Kazakhstan's capital city moved 3 or 4 times .
First - Akorda
Second - Kyzylorda
Third - Almaty
Fourth - Astana ( and city changed name from Astana to Nur-Sultan [ reason : respecting president ] )
