They move the capital, but they don't move the whole population of Jakarta. They only move for those who work at government position, governmental/state owned company, and national military

so i'm guessing he spend like 5 minutes to prepare for this interview. what an odd choice of "specialist" to talk to.. i feel like i should report this video for misinformation somehow.

1. indonesian moving their capital is not because jakarta is sinking. but rather because it is a city that spread out naturally and chaotically. it was never a city specifically planned to be a capital. its not like there was a capital of long forgotten kingdom there. even the idea of moving the capital is not new. it existed even before the sinking issue. not only that, the action of moving their capital is not new to them either... yes. they have indeed moved their capital before.

2. they didn't plan to move jakarta, they plan to move the capital. the center of government.

3. no one ever said to abandon jakarta and start a new. jakarta is still cleaning their "mess". fixing their waterways, improving their mrt, improving their waste management, and so on and so on. placing the center of government away from jakarta should help alleviate the city problem

4. no one is moving ten millions of people. why would you even think that they'll move ten millions of people? unless you somehow assume that all people living in jakarta are central government officials and their families... how crazy would that be.

5. the 2 millions of people is not the number of people on the first couple of years, it is the approximate size of the city population once the entire city is build.. as in after decades of developing this city there will be around 2 millions of people living there.

6. now here is something interesting about animals and plants in that island.. eucalyptus is not indigenous to that island. not only that, it is only save to be consumed by koalas (maybe a few others).... so having those trees there doesn't really benefit the wildlife. it does benefit the company that planted them for pulp industry. yes. this location was a plantation.. so it is not really a pristine habitat, especially for orangutan (those plants are toxic). i dunno what the future gonna be like, but the city is planning to replace those trees with plants that are indigenous there.

7. nothing gonna happen to the millions of people living in jakarta other than having no central government motorcade disturbing their travels every day. or no longer having part of their city blocked off because some foreign vvip visitors shows up.. did all people abandoned melbourne when they finished building canberra?
