One of the many reasons you will never find me on a cruise ship

Why on earth dont they anchor the largest pieces of furniture to the floor. It's not rocket science.

I cruise all the time this is the exception not the rule. This was a glacier expedition cruise, completely different from your typical cruise vacation. In this case they knew they were heading towards violent weather. Normally, even in a bad thunderstorm it's nothing like this, and I've been through a few of them.

Looks like a Viking expedition cruise. We went 2 years ago to Antarctica and had a great time. The waves going thru the Drake Passage were very big but we didn’t have this many issues. We did have to hang on to the railings. Most of us went to our staterooms.

Do these ship captains forget to get the weather report before heading out to sea?

I’m curious as to exactly why majority of the furniture items & such are left unfixed to the floors or walls & why there aren’t any railing or something fixed to be utilized by passengers to hold onto in situations like that to keep from being left to the sliding back & forth violently. I mean one of the passengers slid right into a column really fast & slammed hard enough into it face first she was knocked out cold immediately & fell to the floor thankfully with her partner I assume who was holding onto her & trying to check on her to wake her & keep her body from then being forced to slide in the opposite direction while unconscious. Idk the cruise ship vacation trip or traveling just never was very appealing to myself.

There is no way that the captain should have taken the ship into such a storm imo. You have to have a true ocean liner built for say the Transatlantic crossing that can cope with such waves and have strengthened hulls. The filming is deceptive but again tbere is no way that tbey should have gone so close to the glacier. Glaciers are extremely dangerous when tbey calve both above and below water. I've been on smaller expedition ships between Canada and Greenland and they show great respect for Polar storms, floating pack ice and glaciers. We were warned about how dangerous calving glaciers are because of the massive amount of ice that is flung out at high speed. Then there is the risk of tbe hull being holed because so much of the ice is below the surface.

That’s why they have state of the art navigational equipment..so they can re-route their voyage so this doesn’t have to happen

It seems that these calvings started to get more bigger and serious, a lot of tourist may find them
in danger one of these days. They are to close to these big calvings.

It seems crazy that the furniture have a way to quickly anchor it to the floor in the case of really inclement weather.
