🥇Answer to Guess The Diagnosis: Vocal Cord Dysfunction (aka paradoxical vocal cord movement, aka induced laryngeal obstruction). I got it right because my daughter had it before. The regular doctor didn’t see any signs of asthma so referred her to the specialist at the children’s hospital where she was diagnosed and got therapy, which solved the problem.

Meanwhile the school nurse repeatedly claimed that my daughter had asthma and accused me that I wasn’t taking care of her medical condition (aka neglect), even after I told her that her DOCTOR didn’t think so. “They don’t know, ” is what she said. I told her she was not qualified to diagnose her but she was sooo confident. (This was before the diagnosis)

The specialist (the speech therapist to my surprise) said it can be tricky to differentiate the two for the UNTRAINED person (I had to laugh) so she gave me an information flyer to educate the school nurse. Later I went to school and told her about the diagnosis, she didn’t take the flyer and said, “Yeah I know about it well, there are a few in the school too.” …. I was so glad when my daughter graduated the middle school.
