Why Ezra's Lightsaber Design Failed? Why Ezra's Lightsaber Design Failed? The unusual lightsaber design of Ezra Bridger, with its blaster built into the hilt of the blade, was a failure due to its double barred hilt, that made it a bigger target for his enemies. When Ezra first revealed the unusual design, the blaster that was once seen by the Jedi, as an uncivilised form of defence, would be at risk of short-circuiting, from the untested design. Whilst the addition of the blaster, allowed for Ezra to not reveal himself as a Jedi, and stun the enemy for a getaway, the power module within the hilt, could not handle both the lightsaber and the blaster, limiting its use against skilled Force users. I wouldn't call it a failure it's point was to allow Ezra to have his lightsaber out in the open in case of any force users such as inquisitors which was vital for their survival and the fact that he didn't know how to duel at the start but how to shoot

The reason it failed was because it had a surprise meeting with vaders sabers

Kanan vs the Grand Inquisitor proved dual-function saber was extremely useful, as you can keep enemies off balance by fighting at close and long range. With a second saber you are even more deadly as toggling functions is less important. This was a fantastic saber design

I would like to see a upgrade design of this lightsaber

I don't think that's a fair assessment. Yeah putting a blaster on your lightsaber usually doesn't work unless your name is Cade Skywalker but the concept of having an enclosed guard is a good thing. Most swords have this to protect the fingers so using a metal made from Beskar, Pryrik, Cortosis or something along that line would get around the weakness most find when they try to encase their saber in these materials following the standard tube hilt construction. Ezra was onto the right idea but was feeling pressure as it was his first blade and he needed to make sure it could be serviceable but not noticeable as a lightsaber.

Also following a Dual Flow saber you could create separate energy channels to allow the pistol to not drain the saber with a added bonus if you were decent at micro circuitry to have both channel the energy into either the blade emitter OR the blaster. The one thing you wouldn't want to do though is follow the mistake of Jocasta Nu when she in desperation used a old weapon that harnessed a sabers power to fire a bolt of energy like massive javelin at the the cost of overloading the blade. Dual venting, power regulation and saber resistant cross-guard only? It would be a versatile weapon that could adapt with the times very easily. Perfect for a Jedi Shadow. Shame i don't do ST RPG anymore or I would test it.
