Plane with dozens of passengers spirals and crashes in Brazil

The ATR 72 has been involved in 66 aviation accidents and incidents, including 40 hull losses, resulting in 532 fatalities. As of August 2024, there have been 13 accidents with at least one fatality reported. The most recent fatal accident was Voepass Linhas Aéreas Flight 2283, with 62 fatalities.

I´m Brazilian and live in Sao Paulo, a few miles from the crash site. No survivors and no clue what really happened to cause a flat spin, what is very rare in an airline plane, but a lot of videos caught this dramatic crash that cut off 62 lives (58 passengers and 4 crew members).

I have commented to many in my circles that the ATR-72 is an extremely dangerous aircraft. If you research the history of this aircraft you will see many accidents related to the wing. The wing loading on this aircraft is extraordinarily high compared to most other aircraft. This, combined with a straight (not swept) wing configuration, and a very narrow chord, is asking for trouble, because the wing will not try to stabilize to the direction of the wind over it. That makes recovery from stalls and spins extremely slow and difficult to achieve. Now the ATR-72 claims more lives...may God rest their souls.

And before someone says that gliders have similar wing configurations, gliders do not have the excessive wing loading of the ATR.
