Many, many nights I've spent watching No Reservations as a teenager. In my young, adolescent mind, I was on those trips with him. He took me through Japan, China, The U.S.A, and countless other places. And as an adult, he did the same in Parts Unknown. One of my biggest inspirations in life was Anthony Bourdain. I've never felt close to somebody I've never met, before Anthony came along and changed that. He had a way with words unmatched by anybody I've ever met/seen in my life. He was a genuine, honest, funny, intelligent, well traveled man. His impact on people was, is and will continue to be immense.

I feel that I'm still grieving and I've never even met him, he was such an inspiration. You'll be missed Tony.

As a person that has been dealing with clinical depression for as long as I can remember it’s hard to explain how the world is seen through our eyes.
To understand I will try to explain how I see it. And everyone I’ve talked to with depression Agree with. So here goes,
We comfort others in their time of need yet can not feel comfort ourselves. We use laughter as a tool to keep others happy yet cannot feel happiness ourselves. We seek to please others without an idea of what pleasure is.
As him I sought answers or better yet relief in substance, through alcohol and drugs. This was just a way to cope with the reality of my lack of truly being alive. We breath and exists yet really never feel alive. We feel deep love for those that are important to us in life yet can never feel loved,
In our eyes we are a burden to those we care about. We are unable to except that someone can love us because we can’t even like ourselves. We think “ How can you love me? Look at me, I’m so worthless, I’m such a failure! A failure at being normal, at being a person. No matter how successful we may be it never seems that we amount to anything. So, to put you in the mind of our fallen brothers and sisters, we feel as if us being gone is an act of compassion to the ones that matter the most. This is not, in a mind of a person with depression an act of selfishness but an act of love. An act of unburdening those we love from our darkness inside.
It’s hard to comprehend how someone could think this way to those that are blessed enough to not have this illness.
I’ve been told “ Stop feeling sorry for yourself, you’re young and successful. What do you have to be depressed about?” We don’t feel sorry for ourselves, we feel sorry for the people we love and for putting our burden on them. Much like others with this affliction, I take medicine for it. Medicine alone can not cure you. I find that taking medicine going to counseling and a good support group can help you and save your life.

RIP Dude. He isn’t in pain any longer. We can’t see the pain of others so we are unable to know.

Not many people in this world in which I wish I was that person, Anthony was one of them. Strive to be like him, hungry, motivated, inquisitive, honest, unfiltered, and most importantly, open minded.

We will never understand why he decided to take his life. Someone who gave so much and had such a magnificent career, you would think it impossible to want to end that. I suffer from depression and anxiety and have been in hospital a couple of times. When I heard he did this, it knocked me off the chair!
Rest in peace Anthony and thank you for giving me and all of us a chance to see the world through your eyes and conscience.

There, deep in the pit of my stomach, it waits for that dark moment to appear on the horizon. Surviving pancreatic cancer last year gave me a second chance to enjoy another springtime. I think I'll stay around for a while. I'll miss Anthony. I like him.

As someone who suffers with depression and anxiety. I feel great pain that the world has lost another good person to the struggle that is mental illness. 😔

This one really hurts. My husband turned me on to his shows a long time ago. We spent countless hours watching him and listening. We've watched all his shows from Japan many times over, discussing when we finally have the money, where we'll go based on Anthony Bourdain. If you've ever been depressed, after watching his shows, you could tell he was a tortured soul but we all thought he had already successfully pulled through. It breaks my heart. I'm deeply saddened for everyone that actually knew him because the people who only knew him through TV feel so touched by this horrible news. I can only imagine.

I know Mr. Bourdain would be appalled at the thought, but his work on Parts Unknown should have put him on a very short list for a Nobel Peace Prize. With this show he reached millions of people and reminded all of us of the common desire we all have to share time and simple, great food with one another. Probably did more to soften people's hearts to other people and lands and cultures than anything most of the recent Nobel recipients ever managed. Rest in peace good fellow.
