All Mainline Resident Evil Games Ranked From Worst To Best

After Resident Evil was put through the wringer in the PS3/Xbox 360 era and the early PS4/Xbox One era, it was hard to believe that the franchise would ever get back to its glory days.

The developer has done the impossible though- not only has it restored its famous horror series back to the top, it has even taken it to completely new heights. Resident Evil is now in the best shape of its life, and here, we're going to go through all of its mainline games and rank them from worst to best.

I still can't believe that the Resident Evil 4 remake sold more than 3 million copies in less than 2 days. That's awesome.

Resident Evil 2 remake and Resident Evil 4 remake are two of the absolute best games not only in this series but ever. I was never one of those big fans of the RE4 original. I mean it was good but I didn't lose my mind over it. The remake surpasses it in every way.

Having said all of that though my absolute favorite game in this my favorite video game franchise ever is the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. That game along with this franchise is what took me from being a casual gamer that played here and there or whenever I had friends over to wanting to play video games all the time. Nemesis was the first game that I would sit and just think about playing while I was doing anything else. I love this franchise.

As a RE fan that has played every game since the 90’s, I wholeheartedly agree with this list. RE3 remake was a HEARTBREAKING missed opportunity. Not making Nemesis a “stalker” enemy, changing the character stories and taking out the clock tower level (which is arguably the best part of the game in the original), is still upsetting to this day. Out of all the remakes, I’d gladly play the original RE3.

Re2 remake is my favorite Halloween game. I've played it many times and mr.x still scares the crap out of me every time.

You could make a case on number 1 and 2. Both are interchangeable. It's a matter of preference. Good list overall.

I'm happy with this list. RE4R is incredible, but RE2R is the superior "survival horror" experience and therefore feels deserving of the top spot on a list of this iconic Survival Horror franchise.

I'm really quite torn between RE2 and RE4. Having just finished 4, I was inclined to give that my top spot. Then I remembered the sheer terror that Mr X induces when you hear the footsteps coming from behind or above . RE4 doesn't quite achieve that level of tension. Remake Nemesis and Dimitrescu don't quite live up to Mr.X either.

Putting 2 over 4 is a crime. Resident evil 4 is the best game in the series and it has been since 2005

We need another remake of Resident Evil 1 in 2024, and a remake of Code Veronica! I miss Claire, Steve, and Chris. I think if Steve got a new voice actor and changed up the story a bit Steve could be a much more likable character. I liked how Steve and Claire sort of both had a thing for each other, I want to see them expand on the relationship between Steve and Claire.

I was 16 when Resident Evil was released on PlayStation. I was hooked ever since. The old school games are best with the original Remake as the king.

We love this franchise. It’s always been interesting figuring out “the best” RE game over the years. So many of the sequels succeed their already renown predecessors. First RE1 was the best, then RE2, Veronica, 4, 7, village, and now people are saying RE4 remake is the best. And we’re sure the next RE game May topple 4. Keep it up Capcom! You’re making a lot of bloodthirsty people happy!

I think the RE3 remake deserves more love than it gets. And I say this as a die hard fan of the original RE3. Yeah the remake wasn't perfect and definitely isn't a great example of how to do a remake, but it's still an excellent RE game and survival horror game on its own. Plus Nicole Tompkins and Jeff Schine are both so incredible as Jill and Carlos. The game is beautifully flawed.

I have to say this list is legit accurate. Resident Evil 2 did it best as a true horror game, and Resident evil 4 did it best for action horror. My 3rd favourite game would be Resident Evil Remake
