If you're a child of the 80's and want to relive the 8-bit joy of programming and gaming with a Commodore 64 (C64), or you're just wondering what all the fuss is about, then this two part episode of Retro Now is for you!

In part 1 of this episode, I'll go through some of the options that are out there that will let you experience using a C64. I'll even show you how it's now possible to build a new 2020s version of the Commodore 64. I'll look at buying second hand and what to watch out for, along with options for new motherboards, and where you can buy a newly manufactured case.

Loved the video. I am a huge C64 fan and own an original bread bin C64. I hope your channel gets more popular. Looking forward to your next video. Great job.

Great video! This channel looks new but you've got one new subscriber. Keep the technological nostalgia coming!

Keyboards are often listed under a Radio Shack part number because they parted out keyboards for all sorts of brands. I don't remember the specific model number for the C-64, but they're out there. Also, once in a while keyboards turn up on other sources other than eBay. Odd places.

Someone mentioned to me on Facebook that you can add a cartridge port to a RPi emulation of a C64 using some sort of Arduino project.

You should add you can use a original psu if you add a regulator inline or replace the caps and regulator inside the box.

I do have an original working VIC-20 with the two pin PS and PET style keyboard, and also a C128, but I gave up my C64 from years back, sadly. I do have a The C64 now, and it's great, but I can't plug my tape or floppy drives into it. Of course I can just use my C128 in C64 mode. ;)
