Git Version Control in VS Code

p.s. Coming from someone who has been switching between VS for git version control (because its simple to use) and VS Code for coding (because I like the syntax highlighting better)

Is it just me, or does it feel that this tutorial really jumped the gun and didn't explain how to first establish a local repository from visual studio code before doing all the work? How does visual studio know what gitHub account its going to be talking too?

what if your git branch is password protected? all my commits are hanging in vs code, need to use a bash. Is there a config file or something I need?

People come here to learn the basics. You say "open the command module", but do not show how. Git has taken over my computer. I am trying to clean up the 5000+ files populating the git icon on the left. Apparently Git is tracking every change I make to any file on my computer. I can find no answers anywhere, so I'm venting. My apologies.

Ya I have to use the terminal for my source control because there is no way to change repositories apparently. I just have 5k commits sitting there connected to one repository that doesn't exist any more.

When I accept current changes in a conflict and click Stage the file disappears and I can't commit, because it says that I have unresolved changes, help!

has anyone gotten this to work with the Git menu? Everything works from command line, bash, or git-bash, however push from the VS Code UI has authentication failure. I can't find the solution.
