A South Carolina state trooper has been charged with assault and battery after opening fire during a routine traffic stop.

Dude did reach quick, but the cop didn’t see a gun, just assumed, which is why he had jail time. You don’t shoot somebody just because you’re scared, you shoot someone because you’re scared and the perp has the intent to hurt you. Cops just shooting for reaching should be illegal, especially if the engagement distance is further than 5yrds.

You are not supposed to exit your car on a "routine traffic stop." The cop does not know what you are doing, and is not going to wait and find out. If the cop told him to exit that's different. But that is unlikely considering the distance of the cop from the car. A cop typically only tells you to exit from a distance if he's been chasing you.

You have to look at it like the police officer was. He pulls up for a traffic stop, and the guy quickly darts back into the car, that usually means he is going for a weapon, so the only logical thing to do would be to pull out the service pistol, and neutralize the target. I admit, he did shoot him a couple times after he had his hands up, but there is just so much stress that the officer had to deal with in those few seconds, it would be damn near impossible to preform perfect in this situation.

It is really apart of training where he didnt see anything in his hands meaning he wasnt aloud to shoot, also looked like he had his fingers on the trigger before intended to use. This was really bad.

I know I'm late to the party, I just got this recommended. People are saying "that cop belongs in prison." POV: you are a cop and you pull someone over for a traffic violation, he gets out of the car and when asked for ID he dashes back to his car and pulls something out. The cop reacted on instinct and shot.

Dude, the driver suddenly turned around and reached into his car without telling the officer he was grabbing his license. The officer should have at least said turn around or something before shooting, but I understand why he opened fire. Think of how many times officers have dealt with people reaching into their car for a gun after getting out of their vehicle. It was instinct.
