What is the difference between sound deadening materials and how do I install sound deadener?

I travel interstate (800 km journey) a number of times a year and wanted to sound deaden the car to make the journey more pleasant and less fatiguing.
I did my SUV in 2 stages using Butyl based Sound deadener with the aluminium backing. First I did my 5 doors (both the inside and outside skins).
After that there were several things I noticed,
1)It dramatically reduced road noise inside the cabin (especially with city driving)
2)It significantly increased the sound quality in my cars factory audio system (you need to do both inside and outside skins of the door
)
3)It made the car cooler in summer
After driving around for 4 months I then did the whole floor from firewall, seats, transmission tunnel, rear wheel arches, all the way to the boot & Tyre well.
This made the car even more quiet, especially on long distant highway trips. I didn't think this 2nd stage would improve the audio but it improved the sound system even more,
making the high and low frequencies noticeably more defined. Even my wife who doesn't know a thing about cars has noticed the differences at both stages.
I don't think it is that hard taking the interior apart.
I timed my self when doing the floor and it took me 1.5 hrs to remove the seats, centre console, floor trims and carpet all the way to the boot.
Then 1.5 days to clean the surfaces and apply the sound deadener throughout. You don't need to remove the factory bitumen based sound deadener if it is not cracked or falling apart just apply it straight over the top!

For anyone thinking of doing this, I would highly recommend it regardless of whether your into modifying cars or not.
If you are on a budget or are a little hesitant to pull the whole interior apart just doing the doors will make a big difference.
Don't forget that a significant part of road noise comes from the tyres so choose them wisely!

Use dry ice to freeze the factory insulation and then the chisel work is 10x easier :) it cracks of in but pieces with little effort

I got a question I have 2 10s in my jeep renegade wheel area with bandpass box. I have added deadner to roof and under box trunk area . When I turn speakers up sounds like I'm under. Car wash vibrates and sounds like I'm in a barrel maybe flexing not sure please help. Can some give me steps to make the rear area sound clean and not move all the panels and no flex????

Dry ice removes the tar best. Its used by speedway racers in Mildura because i told them too. We usually get it from wineries here. Thank me later.
