You can only use 1 spell instead of two if you have princess, firecracker, or another long range card in your deck

Instead of 2 spells, I usually use a 'building' and a spell. For example a cannon or an inferno tower. That helpt to distract the opponents attack.

Based on how your win conditions do damage or get to the towers. It's sometimes better to choose 2 small spells. Or give away 1 of the win conditions for a building or a versatile card that can be used for most of the situations.
