I wondered what square-foot gardening was and yours is the first site I've found which explains and illustrates it. Thank you and I subscribed!

Great video!

3:50 “When the carrots come up, I’ll need to thin out each cluster to leave one carrot per square ...”

I think meant to say something like “...I’ll need to thin out each cluster to leave one carrot per cluster, or 16 carrots a square” or something like that. I know what you mean though, and this video is helpful af

You've helped me realize one of my (only) frustrations about SFG: You're right that it's best for small- or mid-sized plants. Next summer I'll plan to put my larger-sized plants elsewhere. Thanks for helping me wrap my head around that!

This uses the square foot method as far as the planting goes, but not the soil mix that the inventor of square foot gardening, Mel Bartholemew recommends. The proper soil mixture is key to the success of a square foot garden. The soil mixture which fills the beds should be 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 compost, and 1/3 vermiculite. The plants will do amazingly well, the soil be be loose and friable, and little watering will be needed. With a little top dressing of compost and some compost tea on occasion, the beds will remain productive for years.

I started square foot gardening in 1969 before it became fashionable.  I just didn't have the space.  Lovely video thank you.

I tried a raised bed on my allotment using the square foot method. The loam was good and the yield impressive. My issue was that due to the mixture of crops in the bed, it completely threw me when I came to rotation this year.

I have a north south facing raised 20' x 3' wide polytunnel bed and want to do square foot gardening in it this spring. Many seeds are up and ready, i notice your method uses far less per square foot..looks good. Wondering where to put the cauliflower (when ready. To the North of the dwarf bush beans or to the left (south).

Are earthworm castings a good sub for part of the compost? We are in a condo with no easy access to good compost. Few stores here sell it.

Great channel! Quick question, can raised beds be constructed using concrete blocks? Are they safe?
