Growing your own food not only provides a variety of benefits to your health but also creates a very special link with nature, even if you live in the middle of the city!

Personally, I don’t have any kids, but planning and transplanting your seedlings in the Garden feels like your kids are ready to leave the nest and you need to make this transition as easy as possible for theirs and yours future!

Square foot gardening it’s an incredible method to maximise the production of food in a small area! You’d need a raised bed of 4 by 4 foot to make it right. However, my raised bed was a bit a smaller, but that’s the beauty of Gardening, always evolving and adapting to different situations!

For anyone interested, square foot gardening is a whole system that can incorporate crop rotations and has various recommended planting densities for various different plants, and can succeed in as little as 6" deep of soil (only smaller, shallow rooted plants in that small, but still). Definitely recommend it for people short on space

My mother (and her family, of which she was the youngest and only girl) emigrated from Italy to the US in the 1950’s, where she eventually met my father and had me. My Nonna lived with us until I was around twelve when she passed on, may she rest in peace. She died having never learned to speak English or drive a car. She was a seamstress by trade and could knit any pattern imaginable, was a fantastic and versatile cook, and she single-handedly made my childhood growing up in the US a wonderfully unique mixed-bag of cultural influence. Your videos make me miss her with an ache that I can’t even quite describe, as if your content brings me back to being a child who is being comforted by someone who was wise, capable, and somehow otherworldly. Thank you for sharing these tidbits! It reminds me how wonderful the internet can be at times.

Doing this seems so relaxing and therapeutic! I remember as a teen once we planted some jalapeños, strawberries, tomatoes and it just felt really good going out and picking them fresh

Smart to set up grid versus using markers to identify what you transplanted.
