Hi Brian.
I think you meant the "general" judgement when you said "particular" judgement. The particular judgement is the individual judgement at the time of death, while the general judgement is universal, when our Lord returns, gathers all humanity and separates the sheep from the goats.

I am a Baptist; I was speaking to someone that I believe is a Catholic that goes by the YouTube name Qwerty. We talked about Purgatory, and he recommended this video; I am glad he did. Thank you for making this video; it cleared up some misconceptions about this issue. Also, Qwerty was well-spoken and represented the Chatloic faith very well.

Thank you for this. It is what I believe myself but at work some colleagues make fun of my faith and keep shouting about how purgatory does not exist anymore. Most saying it are lapsed Catholics who only go to mass for weddings, Christmas, baptisms, funerals, first confession, communion, confirmation of a relative. When you try to explain purgatory to them they interrupt loudly and will not listen. Some even say they don't believe in God saying if you are good you go to heaven and if you are bad you go to hell and purgatory is like limbo, it no longer exists. If they don't believe in God how can they believe in heaven and hell? I feel so heartbroken over people like that.

Mother Angelica always used to say it was easy for believers to go straight to heaven - we just need to be doing 'the will of God'

Don't forget that the souls in purgatory need our help as well. Purgatory may be the mercy and sanctifying grace of God but some poor yet holy souls have been experiencing the fires of purgatory for hundreds of years. Pray the St. Gertrude prayer and Chaplet daily for the forgotten souls.

When I was going to an Assemblies of God church, the pastor did a teaching on Jesus cleansing us with fire after death. So a lot of protestants believe in a purgatory-like situation, they just don't call it that. If we all believe the Bible, we all have a lot more in common than we think ❤

That makes sense to me! Thank you! Now I know that someday I´ll be in heaven! I was so uncertain because it´s true that nothing impure can enter in Heaven. And anyone can see that we need purification.

As a youngster I thought purgatory was like a lesser form of hell but not permanent

Does the Catholic Church publish a list of these imperfection that will put a person in purgatory? And, how long a period of time does each imperfection must one serve? Also, who keeps the records of all of this?

while I don't agree, I do appreciate your lesson on purgatory, and can see where you'd get the idea for it.

I know a lot of Catholics and they don’t even believe in purgatory. And they also don’t believe in going to confession anymore

The Holy Bible tells us that our works will be thrown into the fire. If our works are made on straw or hay they will be consumed, but if our works are made of gold and silver they will endure and through fire we will be purified. A person can read Jesus mentioning 4 servants. The first servant got his reward. The second servant was torn apart and fed to the wild beasts. The third and fourth servants did not deserve their reward, but did not deserve getting torn apart and fed to the wild beasts so one got a heavy beating and the other a light beating. Jesus mentions an existence other than Heaven and Hell.

He said if people aren’t doing specific acts constantly like following the commandments and confessing their sins, and are only trying to earn heaven by their own merits then they go to hell. But doesn’t that mean if you do those acts, your earning heaven for yourself? Do you just have to do the acts the church says and not your own acts that makes the difference between heaven and hell? He mentioned relationship in conjunction with works, meaning works bring merit themselves, but only specific works that the bible and church say?
