I’m protestant. I like reading the apostolic fathers, early church fathers and ecclesiastical writers. True, I feel at odds often with my fellow protestants. But I try to teach to the best of my ability, and I listen to others present their thoughts, so that I can avoid caricatures. I really like the idea of purgatory. I can’t understand why protestants have an issue with it. I listen to a 2 1/2 hour discussion by Trent Horn on the subject. It just seems correct. Someone saved at the last hour doesn’t get away with anything. They have not had much time to develop as a proper Christian so they will have time there. it says that Christ burns away all that is not built on him. Where does he do that, and when does he do that, and how long does it take? All of that can be done in purgatory. There’s no doubt that the early church did not have the develop doctrine of the Roman Catholics on this issue. But they pretty much all believed prayers for the dead did something or purging was something real.

When protestants came to my home and preached to me the first thing they asked me was where I thought I'd go if I had died thst day. I told them purgatory.
We must try to purge ourselves of bad habits now. This is not easy. It is even suffering to stop over indulging in anything. This includes any over indulgence in leisure. If we are spending too much time in leisure, we are not actively working on helping others. So this could be seen as sloth. Sloth is a mortal sin.
So it's better to examine ourselves daily in all the mortal sins. The seven deadly sins need to be examined as well as the ten commandments.

I love the way Jimmy talks. Because he speaks that he cares, but he really doesn't care if you believe or not because he knows the truth... And it is up to you to either believe the truth or not... When speaking about our faith is very easy to get caught up and wanting the other person to believe what you believe... that is not the point.. The bible only says to stand firm in your faith and to know how to defend it.... Not to force the other person to believe what you believe.

Purgatory is a beautiful teaching. I will need it when I die. I understand I need to still purge my attachments.

As a Protestant a question I’ve always had is that while we are wretched on Earth, how do we become perfect in heaven? If a person has lived their entire life as a horrible sinner but accepts Christ at the end of his days, similar to the criminal on the cross with Jesus, then how does he go to perfection immediately without ceasing to be himself. This is something that I think the Catholics have a much more convenient answer to. Whether the answer is accurate or not, I cannot say.

"Be perfect as your Father in Heaven is perfect." None of us are perfect, Purgatory is God's final mercy, the place in which a soul is purified and made perfect so that we may stand before God.

There is a parable about a businessman who hires 3 workers at staggered times, to do work. He paid the man who worked the shortest amount of time the same as the man who worked a long day. The man who worked all day complained that was not fair.
The businessman replied l, What is it to you what I pay to whom? You agreed to do a certain job for a certain pay. And, I paid you accordingly.
Nevermind the other workers….

Jesus IS the purification. On this earth we walk towards it, but when we die and approach the gates, Jesus might just stand there and be like "Oh yeah you've put your faith in me and walked when I called you, you're good fam you're covered by my blood" and you just walk in. You HAVE ALREADY BEEN PURIFIED, JESUS HAS YOU COVERED IN THE GREAT DAY as LONG as you've walked with Him all through your life and bore fruit in His spirit.

The Catholic Church was commissioned by Christ to teach all nations and to teach them infallibly—guided, as he promised, by the Holy Spirit until the end of the world (see John 14:25, 16:13). The mere fact that the Church teaches that something definitely true is a guarantee that it is true (see Luke 10:16).

I just look at it as a temporary form of punishment. To me that’s how it’s historically been described. There’s two forms of punishment: temporal or temporary and eternal. Eternal punishment is easily understood. We experience temporal punishment during our lives and even after our life in purgatory. This comes from not doing enough penitent acts. So your eternal punishment maybe forgiven by confession but you still have to work off the temporary fines. Death itself is temporal punishment.

We are perfect because of what Jesus did for us on the cross! That imputation that clothes us in the righteousness of Christ. The need for punitive fire takes away what Christ did on the cross. God Bless all 🙏

Purgatory is still the work of Jesus on his death on the cross. I'm thankful for purgatory because I cannot guarantee that MY faith alone can do it. Jesus is the one who promised to save me and guarantees it with the purgatory.
