This is what bad management, doing things on the cheap and years of outsourcing to incompetent companies leads to. Their "bad luck" has been years in the making.

Is anyone surprised anymore when news like this comes out about Boeing 🤷‍♂️

This is what happens when you replace proper engineering with financial engineering. I can't help thinking that their problems were entirely self inflicted. Let's hope that a once outstanding outfit can drag itself back from the brink and that Boeing isn't a metaphor for the rest of American industry

It amazes me that Boeing can't see that it has problems when they are lead by an accountant, and they solve problems when they are lead by an engineer.

"Sad Boeing news" is like saying Rain in Scotland.

It’s misleading to use the word “grounded” without qualification that it’s ONLY deliveries of new units that are suspended. In service 787s are fully operational

Frustrating for who? They brought it on themselves. The pandemic may have actually done Boeing a favour with there being a lot less flights, therefore a lower chance of possible incidents

A good accounting 'trick' is to write off as much of a loss as you are able in a bad year to make the losses even worse. This makes the 'profits' in other years appear healthier, and the company doing better than a view taken over the longer term including the good along with the bad would suggest.

The advantage is that you throw as much of a loss into the years when bonuses and dividends would have been minimal, or not paid, to then be able to maximise them in what would then appear to be much improved and profitable years!

I am not privy to the information which would prove or refute as to whether Boeing are doing this, or something similar, just suggesting a possibility to be aware of.

The effects of unadulterated greed, Boeings business is cash not planes. Planes isn't managements expertise either so they in trouble.

The 787 as an aircraft is incredible and it definitely changed the way the aviation industry progressed back when the programme was launched in 2007 (medium sized, twin engine, long range). I think the real problems started when Boeing moved the plane's production out of Seattle. I hope everything is rectified soon because it's a beautiful plane.

I hope you can write the actual news in the headline and not click-to-bait.

...only found 787 grounding from 2013 in info on the 'Net. Can't imagine 787 groundings here as of 11/04/21

Bad management and lack of Government oversight.

This is what inevitably happens when you replace engineers with bean counters. Unless they reverse that they have no future.

The bad financial result cannot be placed on the 787 alone. Boeing has had a problem for at least a decade. Sure the 737 debacle was the catalyst but not the cause of Boeing's problem. The company really needs to declare bankruptcy and start again.

Boeing focused on raising their stock price and profits at the expense of quality, hard to see the culture of greed has changed

Corporate greed has turned around and bit them hard. I only have one word for Boeing - RECALL

This is what you get when bean counters do the engineering rather than letting engineers do the engineering. Boeing should be ashamed of themsevles for how far downhill they've gone over the years.

What is also concerning is the 777X programme, where in June 2021 there was an incident during a test flight and deliveries have now been postponed to 2024. Clearly, it is time for a serious management restructuring. As an Airbus fan, do wish them all the very best and to give priority to quality and safety and then profit.
