WTF is James Gunn DOING with the DCU CANON??

James Gunn's DCU is kicking off with the release of Creature Commandos on Max, where the narrative will have some impact on Lanterns, a show about Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart, as well as Peacemaker Season 2. The continuity of the DCU has raised questions, as the reboot introduces new actors for Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and most of the Justice League. Characters like The Flash and Aquaman will not be played by their respective actors from the DCEU. That said, there seem to be elements from The Suicide Squad kept intact, as Peacemaker Season 2 takes place in the DCU. Other announced DCU projects include Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Brave and the Bold, a project featuring Bane and Deathstroke, and Teen Titans, to name a few. Inspirations for this new universe include the DCAU's Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice.

Peacemaker, the elephant in the room of the DCU. He thinks we can’t see him, but we definitely can. The DCU is almost a clean slate but then you got that damn ending in Season 1. I hope they’ll be some retcon that explain away that appearance.

I like the DCU starting with creature commandos. It gives us a broader look at the DCU as a whole from a perspective that’s a bit ununiform, as well as sets a lot of characters up in the background as a sort of tease. Plus, if Gunn can make this project work, something that most people wouldn’t envision as being a part of their dream DCU, then he can make the other stuff work as well

Everything in TSS and Peacemaker fits pretty perfectly outside the DCEU with the exception of one brief scene. Gunn even said Season 2 could be called "the Justice League didn't happen in season 1" and that it WILL be addressed
