Dave Rubin of “The Rubin Report” talks to Andrew Klavan about his new book ”A Strange Habit of Mind”; why you shouldn’t move to California; what the final straw was that caused him to say “Goodbye California”; how the cost of living in California is destroying the middle class; how the progressive policies of Democrats like Gavin Newsom created California’s homelessness crisis; and why liberals don’t make any connection between the policies they support and the California crime wave.

When I was growing up California was the land of dreams. The state has everything, a beautiful climate, beaches, mountains, Hollywood, silicon valley, agriculture, a place people wanted to visit or move to. And somehow they took that land of dreams with so much going for it and turned it into a dystopian nightmare.

Its mind boggling that they had the opportunity to recall Gavin Newsom and they didn’t.

The concentration of liberal power in California is located in two major cities and the amount of money contained in that power overwhelms the rest of the population there. I’m an expat from Cali too, and miss the beautiful weather every day but staying was just not worth it.

Same here. We had a woman camped out on our front walkway in Studio City. Had enough and left for Tennessee. Love it here!

Schwarzenegger is the one who said "screw your freedom." I wouldn't elect him dog catcher.

Left my life long blue state year ago. Close friend said mistake and things would start turning around. Totally disagreed. My final response… “I would rather leave see things get better from afar vs stay get stuck things get worse. Lot of people I assume are now stuck with real estate prices plummeting down and interest rates sky rocketing up.

Andrew is such an important figure in our “American” culture. We need more like him.

As a Californian I understand why both of these men left. Also as a Californian I am mad at them for leaving. Most people in California don’t have the luxury of just getting up and leaving and reestablishing some where else. And I’m upset that they didn’t stay and fight. As a conservative I’ve been fighting against the left policies for over 20 years working on some of the campaigns they mentioned both locally and statewide. Being a general thorn in the side of people destroying this beautiful state. One thing I would ask is even though they have moved out of California, continue to support the conservative movement here in California.

Last one out of California, will you please turn out the lights. Never mind. They'll go out on their own.

I loved watching Andrew's show back before everyone moved to Tennessee. So sorry he had to experience this. I live in northern Kentucky, but spent a fair amount of time living in the DC area (Bethesda and Arlington) and it is a beautiful area; although from video I have seen recently that the homeless situation is well on the way to destroying our once beautiful capital city.

It's interesting watching the zombie apocalypse happening and instead of people fleeing in terror they quietly accept it instead, just going "Well this is the new normal."

Welcome to Northern VA! It has also gone downhill in the last ten years but is still pretty good. Recent moves in state-wide politics may signal a turning point.

Looking at this reminds me of what we see here in South Africa.

Agree. People are moving because of policies … the country will be divided further
