I think the UK taking a more conciliatory and less aggressive approach to this compared to say, France and Spain etc is good at keeping the UK together. Granted, they are still firm but not the extent of what we saw with Catalonia.

I think the risk is a split between SNP & Labour from progressive voters letting Torys win Scottish seats due to FPTP. Scots need to look at the polling and vote tactically in the general election.

I think after Brexit a second independence referendum would have been justified by changed circumstances., Ironically, one of the arguments the no side used in the referendum on independence was that it would lead to Scotland leaving the EU.

It doesn't help when the SNP when their new party leader essentially repeated the line Edward Longshankes from Braveheart:

"The problem with Scotland is that it's full of Scots!" 😂😂😂

The biggest problem with the SNP is that its keaders want to be the first 'ruler' of an independent Scotland.
If they had spent time and effort arguing for more regional control in the UK and pushing for more autonomous powers they'd be further on wirh their cause.
They need a bureaucrat who can build the foundations first.

I think the SNP have done so well because they’re a left leaning party and labour (also Scottish labour) doesn’t represent as much of the left anymore

I think that a big problem with Scottish independence is that it would create a massive level of issues in separation and may not grant much benefit like in Brexit.

It would be really weird to see a United Kingdom of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, it just doesn't have the same ring to it. The Union Jack without blue will also look odd.

As an English expat, it will never not be ridiculous that the UK government acted like Brexit did not give Scotland a mandate to have another vote, given how much the unionist campaign in the first one was about risking Scotland's EU membership through the UK. 🙄
