I have 100% SSD in one ear and excellent hearing in my other. I find putting dull people on my deaf side while putting the ones I love on my good side to be an excellent solution to my problem.

The combination Dr. Cliff and the community within the comments of this video is really refreshing. With that said, all of this confirms my assumptions. I’m going to wait for tech to get better. I’m thinking of just getting something more basic and inexpensive to improve my hearing which is perfect in my right ear). I’m very much functional with my SSD from acoustic neuroma but it sure would be nice to hear just a little bit better. I was thinking of an antique ear trumpet, then decided to see what’s new and found Dr. Cliff’s other videos, which led me here.

Early in 2021 I tested the high end rechargeable Phonak bi-cross. In a restaurant when a waitress spoke to me on my deaf side, I could not hear her. It was obvious that I would have to turn to face her to hear what she was saying. In my hearing ear (mild loss) it was a revelation hearing all kinds of high pitched clicks and scrapes, but the problem of hearing people speaking in a somewhat noisy environment, like in a restaurant, when they weren't speaking directly to my hearing side, did not get solved. With great difficulty, I managed to get my money refunded by Yeshearing before the 45 day trial period ended. The ridiculously high prices charged by hearing aid companies is scandalous, even taking into account that it includes the services of either an audiologist or a hearing aid specialist.

I recently had surgery to fix a dehiscence on my right side. I had the left side done in January. 2 days post surgery I had to go back to the hospital due to extreme vertigo. Ever since then I have had no hearing in my right ear. Surgery was 9/1. We are currently trying shots directly into the ear to get into the middle ear and continuing prednisone. As of now there are no changes. This video gives me hope of some sort of normalcy if I don’t regain any hearing.

This is really good information. My hearing loss is to a point where I don’t understand some people. I have to rely on my wife at times. She gets aggravated sometimes.

The cros is a great sollution to my unilateral deafness, but I can't really see why my new aids are no longer compatible with the my Phonak app.
This is realy a significant loss in flexibility to tweak the aid for the good, sligthly better ear. Regards, Seb

Wish I'd have had this non-surgical option in '16. I have SSD and have a moderately severe loss on the other side. And, yes, the challenges are real. I work in a building with 2 banks of elevators and end up doing what I call "The elevator waltz" to try to discern where the "ding" I hear is coming from. Many times, it's just in time to see the doors closing. LOL.

Many thanks Dr Cliff. Time to visit my audiologist methinks :-) SSD may be rare, but my cousin in the UK tells me that she and several of my cousins have the same problem: overnight SSD! We are all age 60 and older.

I used to have a cross but I decided to get an upgrade to a cochlear implant. Working progress but better results so far.

Great improvements but the pricing is my main concern.

I’m currently trialing the Phonak CROS PR with a P-70 for my “Good” ear. They are running in BICROS mode so that I can get some high frequency amplification on my good ear. I’ve had them for 5 days now and so far I love them.
