Brutalist architecture was popular in the Eastern Bloc communist countries because of its rejection of nostalgia for historical aesthetic values and because the raw and imposing structures projected the power of the state on those who visited or dwelled in the buildings. It is truly hideous on a multitude of levels.

Never heard the term before. I googled images for 'brutalist architecture' and have to agree they are the ugliest buildings ever.
