Boris Johnson says he is 'looking at' scrapping the TV licence

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he is 'looking at' scrapping the TV licence. Responding to a question about why he would not abolish all TV licences he said: 'At this stage we are not planning to get rid of all TV licences, though I am certainly looking at it.'
'I think the system of funding out of what is effectively a general tax - everybody has a TV - bears reflection, let me put it that way. How long can you justify a system whereby everybody who has a TV has to pay to fund a particular set of TV and radio channels? That is the question.' Abolishing the TV licence would have huge implications for the BBC, which relies on the TV licence for its funding.

If you have a TV or radio, then you have to pay taxes to support the BBC. A friend of mine in Puerto Rico and I discussed this once many moons(a little Indian lingo here) ago, and we came to this conclusion: "It's legalized theft."

Do it. If a voluntary subscription service or advertising can't keep it afloat maybe it just doesn't deserve to exist as a corporation. Many other TV stations do pretty well out of not forcing everyone to pay a tax.

You would then find out how popular it really is. If there is no audience to keep it afloat, it would go out of business. If the BBC was popular, it would flourish.

I think what Boris will do is make sure that anybody who doesn’t pay it won’t end up with a Bailiff around their house or a court summons or a fine over a TV licence .. this threatening people has to stop
