Atleast she is honest about salary figures. And half of my batchmates including boys are switching to other field.

As a mechanical engineer i was getting paid 12 k per month...growth in mechanical field i like 1-2k per year will be increased.I am also trying to get a job in IT, for a year i have been unemployed...hopefully i will get job soon.
Mechanical engineering students are very hardworking and even when they switch to other domains they tend to do better job than the actually IT guys.I was shocked to know that even after completing a degree in Computer lot of guys dont even know what are the datatypes and variables are.

I completely understand it's her choice to take up a different field. But one has to come out of the mindset that jobs of mechanical engineering are physical or where high strength is required. There are many jobs in the area of CAD modelling, simulation etc. where you need to sit in front of a computer and create the models.

Facts she wanted to study computers but ended up getting a mechanical seat in engineering.
Fast forward wanted a Mechanical job but couldn’t find one so ended up in software field.

Guys, mechanical engineers in India, are majorly handling and supervising, skilled and unskilled labours and maintaining the production lines.
Remember they also are In designing as well, but it is pretty rare.
Traditionally roles of maintaining the production lines are given to male because of the un-organised way of treatment with labours. Basically dog to sheep relationship.

This kind of relationship you'll find at various hierarchy, like production manager to line manager and line manager to labours who are the actual executives doing the job. Obviously in Maintenance you see this hierarchy as well. And even in QA. Males are first choice for all these roles because of the fact, how upper level management is used to treating the employees with stick rather than the carrot. Obviously same goes for the lower levels of hierarchy. So it becomes really impossible for females, to break into this industry.

Some years back I found out people who came out of this rut by doing leadership and cost cutting courses, Lean and Six Sigma etc. Go give it a try if you are under same rut.

I've heard about 3D design is another good option, but don't know much about this.

Btches(supervisor etc) exploit you for increasing their performance in mechanical field and pay you less. - Ex Automobile Engineer

She is correct. I am a Mechanical engineer who worked at production line. The works hours are not just long but the pay is too low. In EV and Thermal sector there is growth but not in core mechanical. I have shifted to data science now. Best decision.

She is very honest.
But as what I know- Mechanical Engineering also has varieties like production, Designing, Automation etc
