Canadian Doctors Combating Illness With Nature

"Doctors across several Canadian provinces can now prescribe patients a pass to the country’s national parks system in a bid to improve their mental and physical health.

On Monday, Parks Canada said it was joining the national nature prescription program known as PaRx, or A Prescription for Nature, which aims to get patients into nature for a minimum of two hours per week.

A growing body of research has shown anxiety and mental health problems, including those triggered by global heating, can be effectively treated by spending time in nature. That can include everything from digging your hands into a backyard garden to exploring the backcountry (though studies have shown increased biodiversity, as well as sweeping views of green space and water, are best).

What matters, say experts, is that patients feel like they have had an experience in nature. "

I'm Canadian & I used to ride my motorcycle through those very mountains every spring on the May long weekend visiting all the hot springs & after a nice long cold winter it definitely gives your mental health a boost, Ana & Cenk if you get the chance come on up I think you enjoy it, big bonus you will not have to worry about any gun violence during your stay...

I spent one summer living in a cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and I can’t emphasize enough how healing it was for me. I lost 15 pounds and never felt better, physically and emotionally.

Going for a drive, taking a walk etc and spending time alone to think and get your mind right is actually extremely good for mental health.

I live in BC and nature is part my mental health routine tbh.. walking and exercising outdoors is extremely therapeutic. Yes we're really blessed here with beautiful vistas but you can enjoy little things as well no matter where you are. There is uniqueness to each location on earth

Thanks for the break from the bleak greyness of everything thats happening around us, nice to hear this before going to sleep versus the usual grim dystopian tale we are acclimating to.

Nature reminds people that it is bigger and more important than them. It was here before you and will be here after you. It is more powerful than you.

Cenk! You’re so close in your guess! That’s Moraine Lake, which is right beside Lake Louise in the very same park. And it is breathtaking! It’s only open spring/summer because they close the single road to get to it over the winter time.

There is no better place to smoke a joint than sitting in a tree(Important! make sure you can climb down while stoned) but the view and being close to a tree is a special buzz.

My doctor has been promoting time in nature to me for years. But I've never gotten a free pass anywhere. He just told me to go some places with few people and lots of nature to relax and detox from the stresses of society.
