I guess I can understand Loghain's attitude throughout DA:O it takes place not long after the Orlesian invasion and if you read The Stolen Throne you will understand why he hate's Orlais so much and honestly with Leliana being the only Orlesian I like, I hate the rest of them especially the irritating accent of their's which is even more annoying on male Orlesian's ugh.

And Cailian was a moronic King with his easygoing attitude and glorification of war so @ Ostagar Loghain didn't want to waste the lives of his men who would inevitably die from protecting that fool of a King, Alistair makes a far better King than Cailian could ever be.
