Loghain is one of favorite characters Bioware has ever cooked up because he's so complex. If you talk to Anora, it's implied that he did care for his wife a great deal (also the story about him killing her favorite flower on accident then hand delivering new ones to her while the thorns tore him up is kind of adorable) and when you talk to him after recruiting him he has some of the best dialogue in the game. Even his banter with other characters has a fair bit to it, especially the dog and Wynne (I enjoy that Lelianna seems fascinated by him and is totally fine with him being there too). It's gotten to a point where I trade Alistair for Loghain every playthrough now. Not that it was a difficult choice, I don't much care for Alistair to be honest. He's kind of a whiner.

You are actually the first one I have seen making such lore videos for Dragon age. I do hope you will continue doing so, these videos are really enjoyable and I bet a lot of other people feel the same way. I've subscribed and with the effort you put in you really do earn more subscribers!

I think one of the only decisions that Loghain made that can be defined as objectively evil and not just misguided is his slave trading with Tevinter. And even then you can chalk it up to Howe, but it still doesn't excuse him, he IS the ruler. But even then, your Warden (and also your Hawke and Inquisitor) can make decisions throughout the series that are just as evil. I always thought that way about Loghain, but now that I'm reading The Stolen Throne even more so. He is a tragic figure, not that unlike Hawke in many ways if you think about it (especially aggressive Hawke).

I recruit Loghain because I think that’s what Duncan would’ve wanted even after his betrayal and because he can sacrifice himself against theArchdemon. Ultimately Duncan would be more worried about ending the blight than personal vengeance but Alliatar got to emotional.
I make a hardened Allistar the king and married to Anora of course so my boy can have somewhat of a happy ending.

Loghain was tactical and rational. It was suicide. Duncan snd the King were both insane

I truly believe Loghain cared so much for Ferelden he felt compelled to leave Calian. After reading The Last Throne it really lets you see into his character more. I do not excuse some of his actions (slave trading with Tevinter☹️) but I don’t think he’s as heartless as people make him to be. He’s got to be in my top 10 characters from DA!!

I really did not like Loghain in my first playthrough, but after paying more attention to what he says and how Cailan behaves I realized he was actually right to leave. Cailan is a good person, but he kinda never grew up.
Now what I would be curious about is a timeline, where Bryce Cousland survived. Then there would be another Teyrn besides Loghain which would open the gate to plenty of interesting ways the story could go.

Honestly I can get down and excuse with all his actions other than the slave trading, but I love that his party banter to defend his actions with the elf's is really rock solid and thought through.
