unfortunately my computer crashed part way into the live and we had to cancel. it. Will be finishing this up at a later time. Today we are making basic dovetails with just a hacksaw and chisel. more tools might make it easier, but they are not needed! we will be doing this live and in real time. come see me mess up and have a fun time.

Unfortunately my computer crashed twice during the live and we had to cancel it. I'm going to be rebuilding my computer this week and hopefully we'll be able to finish this at a later time.

My best bet on the fuss about dovetail is that it is probably linked to the fact that for a period of time it was one of the "simple" joints that was not easy to make with powertools so it was the joint you had to be able to cut in order to show the joinery was handcut.

I wish I had seen this video a couple of years previous. Thinking I could "buy better dovetails", I bought an expensive dovetail saw. Duh. It stays in the drawer these days. I found that for my amateur self, I can get much nicer and accurate dovetails with the relatively inexpensive Japanese pull saw I had been using all along (and I know that is "woodworking heresy" in some circles :). Could have done it with a hack saw. Aw shucks. Thanks for all the great videos.

Oh no, but how does it end?? You can't leave us with just tails! Fun to watch anyway so far

That "cut your finger with the saw and draw it with blood" comment made me adore your wife. Amazing :D

Been waiting for someone else to discover that a 22tpi dovetail saw costs $10 at most hardware stores.
I found out cutting dovetails in brass for infill planes.

Hello! Can you please do a test of the 'unicorn' method for sharpening vs your test setup sharpening method on expensive vs cheap chisel? I have switched entirely to unicorn method for sharpening all of my chisel and plane blades as it saves so much time and have found that on 'T10' steel (cheap) on my Luban no4 plane the edge seems to last forever.

8:10 It's not about Wright, it's about dovetails.

Damnit, missed it again. James, saw the dot next to the channel, clicked on it to find the link to the stream, but there was nothing, any ideas what's going on? Has happened many a Tuesday night. This looked like it was going to be a good one, but the "It's OK to mess up and have fun", so, so damn hard.
You seemed to have happened to forget to show you dimensioning and squaring up the boards with the chisel and hacksaw :-D LOL
As to your computer, while yes, it would be nice to shell out the big bucks for something super high end, you definitely don't need to spend $2k to get something to live stream and edit with, not unless you're talking a complete system including case, monitor etc., could just as easily use back your old case, PSU, GPU (unless it's real crap) drives etc and just get a new MB, CPU & RAM, then add/upgrade to a newer GPU when funds allow. Heck you could even build your own new case from wood and use the power button etc from the old case for it.
