Why is the Male Main Character in Zenless Zone Zero Getting So Much Hate from People?

Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) has just launched but is already receiving criticism towards its male main character, Wise, who works as a proxy in the game. Players find his design too bland, boring, basic, and reminiscent of an NPC. In a poll with 24k votes, 55% preferred Belle, the female main character, while 44% chose Wise. The differences in their art and in-game appearances are quite noticeable, leading to player disappointment. Interestingly, both characters are integral to the story and have unique qualities. Personally, I believe both characters are precious, beautiful, and handsome.

His aesthetic is definitely meant to be a contrast of his sister’s, I mean just look at their bedrooms.
Belle’s room: Messy, colorful, loud
Wise’s room: tidy, minimalistic, calm

I actually really like both designs since it fits their personalities, Wise is the chill and laid back guy so it makes sense that he doesn't really care about being fashionable while Belle is far more outgoing and energetic.

Nahh, i love Wise design. It really shows how his personality are, like have you ever seen his room? His room are much more tidier and simpler than his sister room. It which Belle, also has her own unique personality.

She is more bubbly, as you can see that her room is a more... messy but in a unique way, that's just her personality (also, i am also like her, my room can be messier even though i'm more like a quiet and chill person) and Wise is more of a calm but caring brother to Belle. So, i don't think i have any complain to it, i just love both of them.
