In John Wick when Akira fought that giant man and killed him no one batted an eye. Why? Because she fought like a girl. She used her superior agility to maneuver around him and attack his vital points, however the film makes no mistake in showing that when the guy got a hold of her he literally launched her like a child across the room. That’s how you can portray a woman taking down a man and no one will care because it’s a somewhat realistic portrayal of the realities of men and women. So in the end Akira appears even more fearsome as she is able to overcome a much bigger stronger opponent through tactics and skill. Not hard to do when a modicum of brain power is used.

You can give your male characters challenges without weakening them. You just have to make the villains credibly strong.

Sara Connor. Ripely. Scarlett O’Hara. Laura Croft. These are just a very small example of badass women who never lost sight of being a woman. I miss the days when I wasn’t forced into believing that a 100 pound woman could lay waste to a dozen men twice her size and instead was treated to a powerful female lead who despite her physical limitations could still get the job done. Without making any man lesser to make her look tough.

I think Tangled is a movie that shows a perfect balance between a man and a woman. Rapunzel and Flynn are both super likable in their own way. Rapunzel is a typical feminine girl and Flynn on the other hand is a manly character complementing Rapunzel. The thing is that men and women do not need to compete with one another, they need to complement each other.

I think that pissed me off about Quatamania the most, is that they robbed Scott of his relationship with daughter.

Lord of the Rings has an amazing list of strong male characters. Even Merry and Pippin grow in the end. Aragorn is the most obvious example but I love the rest as well. We can learn a lot from Tolkien.

I know I said this before, but as the mother of a boy, I'm concerned for the future of boys and the kind of male role models they'll have. No matter how progressive, boys need proper role models and it's important for them to grow up as unashamed of their masculinity as we hope girls will be as unashamed of their femininity. Masculinity is not gross or toxic. True masculinity is beautiful and natural. This is why as a comic author, I try to make my male MCs masculine in the best ways.

PS: You can make a man masculine and have moments of vulnerability. Making them into weakling isn't entertaining. It's disgusting. You're basically admitting that you love writing bad on purpose. It's pathetic.

John McClane, Marty McFly and Peter Parker are some of my favorite relatable everyman heroes. Both take their lumps throughout life, but always stand to do what is right.

Also Tom Cruise and John Wick are pretty much the last bastions of masculinity right now.

Evie from The Mummy is an underrated female hero. Nerdy and clumsy, but also sweet and brave all at once.

Hey I just saw Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves in theaters and I actually enjoyed it. Yes, Chris Pine's character is somewhat emasculated in film, however his manhood is kept intact by being the most confident and smartest of the bunch. In true bard fashion he encourages everyone to try their best and adapt to every situation. His core strength is intelligence and positivity. He does everything he can to save his daughter. The movie is not super woke like other films in the past. I encourage everyone to give it a chance.

I'm a chick; my favourite male hero is probably Chris Redfield. He's a gigachad through and through - love him in every game he appeared in as well as Vendetta. So excited for Death Island, can't wait! It makes me feel so sad to see how awesome men have been so ruined in western media. Let's hope things move in a more positive way in the future, since there (were) plenty of great male characters out of western media over the years.

John was beaten and tired. Fell down the stairs multiple times. Guy could barely stand. But man he is almost invincible

They intentionally emasculated the men but claimed it’s not for wokeness? So they knew this is common but still tried to say it’s “funny and fresh?” So mind bogglingly stupid!

Princess Mononoke is a perfect example of how to make all the characters strong without shitting on anyone

TBF, the Super Mario Bros Movie is portrayed as if the characters are meeting each other for the first time, so for Luigi and Peach's role to be flipped actually helps since it would seem strange for Mario to want to rescue a random stranger. Having him rescue his brother gives him a more personal stake in the Mushroom Kingdom's affairs while simultaneously giving him the time to build up his relationship with Peach.

It could also go on to explain why the toads would only ever see Luigi as Mario's uninteresting brother, despite him being just as super as Mario (whenever he does set his fears aside that is) and opens up a huge opportunity for Luigi’s character arc in a sequel, him realizing that he is in Mario's shadow and confronting his feelings about it, that is assuming that Nintendo actually cares about storytelling now.... (all of this was in the RPGs).

John Wick 4 was fantastic! I just saw it and I have no complaints. I actually went and saw it with my friends then took my family to see it again. It was completely Non-Woke and a great addition to the Wick franchise. If you go and see it, make sure to stay for the After Credits scene.
