I'm making a plan and reviewing my TBR to read all the books I want to before the end of 2023 with the end of the year book tag. Click ‘Show More’ for info.

The questions:

Is there a new release you're still waiting for?

Hi! As an American who has lived in Germany for many years I am involved in two English bookclubs and regularly watch and enjoy your channel but have never commented before. However, we just discussed Hungry Ghosts this morning and felt I must comment this time - we were completely bowled over by the story and the stunning writing of this young Caribbean author. It certainly gets our vote as a must-read novel!

Vaster Wilds might have the MOST autumnal cover of the year 🍂

Blackouts is absolutely wonderful. Just put up my review of it and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Also just read Clear, and it’s fantastic.

Thanks for sharing, Eric. Love this tag!

As soon as you can move it to the top of your TBR pile, be sure to read The Vulnerables, the new novel by Sigrid Nunez Is it memoir? fiction? literary commentary or criticism? feminist? a book about grieving? YES - it is all these things and a riveting read. Also the Justin Torres Blackouts is worth taking a day of work in order to read all at once

I ADORE Elizabeth Acevedo's young adult novels and so excited to read Family Lore

I’d suggest you try to finish Study for Obedience as an audiobook. It’s performed by the author herself, and I feel her prose is best when read aloud. I’m in the middle of it now, and while it’s not becoming a new favorite or anything, I think I would be enjoying this immensely less were I physically reading it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one reading to my husband before bed 😊. It really is a fun way to end the day, I wish we had more energy some days and do it consistently

There's little innately unusual about a pre-death wake; It's actually quite commonplace: My mother had several, and would have had more but after a while people stopped coming:( I was here with her until the moment she died, well to be technical I slept while the nurse sat nearby but at the services during the next few days it hit home to me that the pre-death wake made much more sense. For many of us, our Sunday best clothes were ill-suited to the season, and it was such a gorgeous day, it seemed a shame to be celebrating a life at a funeral. Well, I've heard good buzz about Acevedo, so maybe I"ll get a chance to read it. Thanks.

I think you should give Study for Obedience another go. I ended up really enjoying it and it has stayed with me (read it about 2 months ago).

I have Fayne on order and am hoping to read it this winter. It seems perfect for the cold, dark days. 🙂
