I never thought that being over 30, I could love Percy Jackson as I did. In fact, that series made me realize that middle grade could be like fresh air between contemporaries and high fantasy, rather than YA Fantasy. The last percy one was amazing! 😉

4:10 "The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo" by Steig Larsson and "The Hypnotist" by Lars Kepler are two great Scandinavian crime novels.

Percy Jackson! Yay! Please, continue. Titan's curse introduced one of my favourite characters. I reread Heroes of Olympus this summer and ah, I still love every Riordan book.

I am currently enjoying scandinavian crime books from Jo Nesbø, Harry Hole series. Really recommend it!

Rick Riordan said books 5 and 4 are his two favorites 1 being his 3rd favorite. So I recommend you get to those.
Edit: though I don't think you'll enjoy HoO as much, considering the random encounters are cranked up to 11 there.

YESS! PLEASE PLEASE finish Percy Jackson. Although I did enjoy book 3 (lots of great new characters for me) I definitely agree that it could get a lil boring and routine-like. BUT book 4 definitely breaks a few of those restrictions and book 5 is.. just mind blowing. And even better, if you like Percy Jackson, you can read the Heroes of Olympus, the next one in the Rick Riordan-universe. That's more YA-ish so it's a bit more complex than Percy Jackson. You may like it more. For me it got a little convoluted but I still loved it. Book 4 of Heroes of Olympus is on my top 5 books of all time! So so good!

PS- if you like these kind of mythology-based books and also Rick Riordan's writing, you may want to check out one of the other series he's written about Norse or Egyptian mythology! 😄

OMG, Shadow of the wind is incredible. I reread it earlier this year and I'd forgotten most of what happened and I absolutely loved it again! The rest of his books are on my TBR list.

Thank you Merphy for inspiring me with your enthusiasm every day (and also: I'm so angry because you always add to my TBR with your recommendations).

"Shadow of the Wind" is amazing! And the second book in the series which acts as a prequel "Angel's game" is honestly one of the best books I've read this year. Although I need to point out that the translation really keeps a lot of the hispanic tone... So much that as a hispanic myself I figured it must had been originally written in Spanish so I read that instead... Best decision ever!! The atmosphere in Carlos Ruiz Zafon's works is simply art... RIP CRZ!

I found your videos a few weeks ago and am enjoying them so much! You’re also the first youtuber I follow who doesn’t post all their videos when it’s night here and I can actually watch some of your videos almost immediately after you post them!
Jimmy Brandt already commented good recommends on scandinavian crime but Camilla Läckberg’s The ice princess is good and basically got me into the genre

I'm a scandinavian reader, I'm not a crime reader though but I know they are HUGE here and my family reads tons of them.
I'd say that the biggest authors here are:
Camilla Läckberg, I don't know how much translated works she has but she's huge, and Lars Kepler (actually two authors, a couple, writing under a pen name together). Also the Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson is a MUST - I think it even had a hollywood movie made. I'd say that if you start with those thee authors you get a grip on some of the crime books - but yes it's HUGE here, and in sweden where I live it's pretty much the biggest genre!
Also Leif G.W. Persson, but he is nowdays pretty much a meme due to his quite... odd demeanor while on television here.
