From Ryanair to Southwest Airlines, low-cost carriers across the globe love the Boeing 737. It’s not uncommon to see the type being the sole aircraft in the fleet of these operators. Boeing’s VP of commercial marketing, Darren Hulst, spoke with Simple Flying about why the aircraft has been a favorite among LCCs across the globe.

Canadian North still operates a 737-200 Combi equipped with a gravel kit.
The plane is 41 years old!!
Amazing plane!

It was nice flying a Southwest 737-800 on a island hop in Hawaii. It even had a Boeing Sky Interior inside. Worth the cheap low cost to fly.

737 is Ryanair landing certified so, its durability can't be questioned

A couple weeks ago, I rode Flair on a short 1hr 30m flight, one direction it was a 737-800 and the other way it was a 737 max, both were great experiences and I can totally see why ULCC/LCCs are finding lots of success with them

I flew flydubai plenty of times it was an amazing experience with the sky interior cabin and an ife on a narrow body aircraft truly changes the experience it brings

It's refreshing to see (ULCC) Flair & (LCC) Swoop to be mentioned on this channel.

This post really says very little. The efficiencies and cost savings mentioned really only refer to why carriers are upgrading to the MAX generation. Simple Flying fails to explain why 737s might be preferred over a320 family aircraft.

I love the 737. Especially the 737-800. The widebody and the powerful and wonderful sound of the engines is what my airlinerheart enjoy so much. And the design of of Bobby is so lovely. The 737 is a character and not just only a machine. It's a machine with a soul and history. We love Bobby and we hope that the 737MAX Problems can get fixed very quickly for a great 737 future, even if the first design is done at the end of the 60's. My generation, 737 800!

Yeah I like LCCs, they make air travel affordable for the masses. Not always a pleasant experience, but certainly fair for the price you're paying. 737-800 is the type I travelled on the most so far.

I really can't recognize a special relationship there. I bet that, fo every LCC that flys the 737, I'll find you one that doesn't. Personally, I flew with only on LCC operating the 737: Ryanair. However, I flew with four using the A320 family: Easyjet, Vueling, Jetstar, and Tiger Air Australia. And there are so many more: WizzAir, Frontier Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Jet Blue, Air Asia, IndiGo, Allegiant Air, Spring Airlines, Eurowings, ...

@0:21 caption read as "Why LOST Cost Carriers Love the 737"

Might want to edit that

It's kind of simple, the 737 has lower seat mile costs, which if you're a LLC and every penny counts matters. Still there are alot of LLCs using A320 family that make it work. Also history has alot to due with, fleet consistency is important for LLCs so if you traditionally use Airbus or Boeing you'll like stay loyal, a new brand just introduces operational and transitional expenses.

The Swoop pictures are my home airport, and I love to see the Flair 737 Maxes going in and out.

I like the 737 for short hops like LAX-SFO, DEN-ABQ. Just because the 737 and the 320 can go longer range doesn’t mean they should. These planes were made for short to medium missions. Not flying LAX-HNL or as in the 321 flying over the Atlantic!

I really like the LCC concept enabling milions of people who otherwise would not have the opprtunity to fly to do so.

The biggest item you deleted was parts or spares availability.. with a airframe of this length of production.. cheap and readily spares are easy to source and or sell .

The 737 is also good at landing at reasonably short runways so can land at secondary small airports, such as Stockholm Skavsta
